Pick a fictional locale to spend the next four years in

Phaic Tăn here I come.

The Garden of Eden.

As a kid, I used to read the Dinotopia books and fantasize about living in Waterfall city. So I’ll set up camp there.

Can I hang out in a real place with a fictional group of people? If so, I’ll choose The Monkey Wrench Gang.

If not, I want a ticket to Dream Park.

Callahan’s Bar when Mike was still bartending. I’ve got this drink chit, see, from an old Analog contest…

or

Slip F-18, Bahia Mar. I would speak briefly with Trav then head to the John Maynard Keynes to meet the great Meyer

Shit, you too? I got Spider to buy me a beer at World-Con a few years back, but I still have an owesie from that contest.

I’ll skip hanging out there, though. Too exciting.

I’ll take Oz for my four year exile.

So many choices, and I have to come back? Sigh

I guess I’ll go with Narnia, much as I would also like to visit the Shire.

I want to visit Mr. and Mrs Beaver, and see Father Christmas, dance with the fauns, and maybe take sword fighting lessons from Reepicheep.

Dang - I never thought of actually USING the chit, but then I’ve never been able to afford to get to a Worldcon, either. Best I could do was Westercon when it came to Portland a couple of times, but, alas, no Spider.

I will confess that I asked him pretty please at the time if he could get Jeanne to sign the chit as as well, and he remembered to do so, to my great pleasure.

And as for hanging out at Callahan’s, yep, there’s some excitement there, but I suspect Jake and Fast Eddie’s playing would be worth it

Given the bitter partisan climate we’re seeing these days, I wasn’t expecting Alaska to come up in this thread.

Like I’ve done in some similar past threads, I’d be traveling the world on the Leif Erickson.

New New York, year 3008. Robot friends, career picked for me, Slurm, great public transit, the ability to talk to the heads of historical figures including founding fathers.

Norrath, the world of Everquest. Nerdy as hell, I know. I haven’t played for years but I always loved the aesthetic of the world. Magic, perfect weather, beautiful landscapes and cityscapes, and when you need something, just go kill a monster for the money!

What was the name of the planet in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe where it was always late Sunday afternoon and everyone spent all their time at the cafes?

That one.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, please!

Somewhere in Varley’s post Invasion worlds–not Charon, though. Luna would do pretty well, I’d go hang out in the disneylands and get some bodywork done. Maybe take a symb and hang out in the Rings but it’d really suck to have to come back.

Pern would be quite nice, I could cope with that, but I’d pick sometime right after the first Pass when there was still quite a bit of technology available.

Callahan’s would be cool but due to blechy weather I’ll pass on Suffolk county and head straight for Callahan’s Key instead–I dig the key lime pie, mang!

Eureka Oregon

A bit of a nitpick, but you do realize that Reepicheep lived in a very different Narnian time period from those particular Beavers? I suppose that you could always take your chances and ask Aslan to send you across to Pevensie world for a bit where the time runs differently… but remember, he’s not a tame lion and he might think that asking was a bit impudent!

Me too! Any Culture habitat or planet.

James Halperin’s Truth Machine/First Immortal universe, preferably after 2060.

Alternatively, Vernor Vinge’s Peace War/Marooned in Realtime, as far into the 22nd century as possible without running into the singularity.

Narnia, during the Golden Age when Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy reigned. No question in my mind that’s where I’d go.

Which would be great except for the plummeting property prices due to the black hole heading towards the earth.

send me to chibacity (neuromancer/william gibson)

Sounds like the coolest place on Earth! Think I’ve already met my molly, and it turned out just like in the book!
