Oooh! I’m getting Fight Club tonight! It was a x-mas present that came on VHS (until psycat found out she( ha! She? ;)) got a DVD player for x-mas…
I think I’ll get her an arc-welder next year.
Good lord! I’m gonna need a computer to figure out which one of these gets recommended the most!
Oh, wait a minute. I have one.
Keep 'em coming, folks. Your suggestions are great.
Oh, BurnMeUp, yes. good choice, Romper Stomper.
re The Dark Crystal: fabulous muppets, some really spectacular designs and manipulations, but don’t you just want to drive an ice pick into those insufferable, cutsy gelflings?
What criteria are we going by, films or extras? Personally, while extras are nice and all, I find that I don’t REALLY care that much about hearing directors kiss actors’ asses or seeing how some special effect was achieved. By content and your taste alone, I recommend The Killing. I, like many of my generation, tend to be reluctant to watch older movies, but The Killing holds up. And if you like thrillers, every recent one from slowly-gaining-deserved-recognition producer/director Johnny To is solid-to-great.
Hunt for the Red October
Clear and Present Danger
Patriot Games
Mikhails Navy (If they have it on DVD, I don’t know)
The Princess Bride
Alien and Aliens (Forget any other ones)
Oh, and see if they have History of the World Part I (There’s only one part).
Well, I was gonna suggest The Manchurian Candidate, but I see you’ve already got it. So I’ll give the 4th vote for Brazil and the 3rd for American Movie. I don’t know if it’s on DVD - but Out of the Past was a great noir film. Also try I Married a Strange Person, a feature-length animated film by Bill Plympton, or, if you’re into dark indie stuff, Happiness, one of the more interesting films of '99.
Right on, Space Vampire, I got The Killing on videotape. It is one of my truest favorites. I need that one on DVD, sooner or later.
But I’m taking anything. I’m digging on the suggestions so far; not a bad one in the lot.
