Pick my next DVD

O.K., I’ve got a question: When the hell is Once Upon a Time in the West coming out on DVD?!?! I’ve been waiting forever…

Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation. It’s the least-discussed of his '70s films but in many ways it’s his best, in my humble opinion.

I strongly recommend Cannibal! The Musical. It’s by the nutjobs who brought you South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. It’s about a Colorado cannibal legend, Alferd Packer. The movie is terribly low budget, but terribly funny. And if you like commentaries, you’ll LOVE this one. They start out sober and drink as the commentary goes on. By the time they get to the end they’re pretty hammered. Hilarious.

I could use a copy, too. I used to own it, but I loaned it to a fellow doper (whose initials are VB) back in October and I haven’t seen it since… (But I still love ya, VB).

Um, you must be looking at the video release date, Omni, because this was out on DVD in August 2000. It’s a great movie and a great dvd. I second the recommendation.

“Fight Club” is the best DVD I’ve seen so far (the double pack, not just the movie). It’s got the movie on it, and the option to have commentary over the top of it by the main stars and the director. Then there’s “The Making Of” on the second disk which uses a lot of the tricks that they promised DVD would have but no other movies I’ve seen does (multiple angles, etc). Plus you get this cool little booklet too.

You’ve probably already got it though…

Hey… my 100th post…

Joey:
Titus at Amazon

On second look:
Titus at CDNow

Looks like Amazon may have screwed up, or else they’re missing out on some sales.

Hmm, for some reason you can’t pass the search results via query string in the second link, search for Titus at CDNow and you’ll see that the DVD is apparently out, and the VHS comes out on March 13th.

robgruver, my suggestions:

Ghostbusters with hilarious MST3K-esque commentary track by the director (Ivan Reitman) and Harold Ramis.

Fight Club with four commentary tracks including one in which Brad Pitt calls anyone who would buy the DVD and listen to the commentary, “Cool.”

If you’re feeling tasteless, any movie by TROMA (a production company) is great. You might get Cannibal (The Musical), or Seargent Kabukiman, Nypd. And you can never go wrong with Toxic Avenger.

Otherwise, get Mallrats. Or Clerks.

Trekkies is fairly disturbing. One of those films where your belly laugh drifts off in a nervous fearful laugh.

HAHAHAHA HA Ha ha heh heh heh…

M I don’t have this but it looks very interesting.

I can recommend ‘Fight Club’ as well.

‘Being John Malkovich’ just might fill your bill, also. Interesting, funny, with some good visual effects.

BTW, robgruver, I’ve seen you on the thread, I guess we may meet at HouDope. I’ve been known to hang at the Palm Beach, also. I live about 3 miles from that place…

I just picked up This is Spinal Tap, and I must say, it’s the best use of DVD’s additional features that I’ve seen yet. Plus, it’s an absolutely incredibly funny film.

Got another one: Fishing With John. Quirky and funny as hell, if you’re in the right frame of mind.

And for the record, I won’t be posting any more unusable links. Sorry.

True, true. We watched it in my animation class and I’d have to watch it a few more times to give a coherent synopsis.

Origato: My PBC name is Gamemaster, I don’t suppose we know each other?

Anywho, there are some wonderful picks here. I am going to sit down with Mrs. Gruver tommorow and pick one of these films.

One hour left!

Get The Castle. Very very funny. I would highly highly recommend it. (Can anyone else here that echo?)

A link even! (I am so nice :))

And the winner is…Omniscient!!! After a long talk we have decided on The Abyss: Collectors Edition. I will be emailing you shortly Omniscient.
