"Piece of My Heart" -- who?

The clock radio went off yesterday morning with a kicking country version of the Janis Joplin classic “Piece of My Heart” – which is actually a hell of a way to start a rainy Monday morning. Now I’m looking at AMG trying to figure out who it was, but country ain’t my genre, so I don’t know whose voice sounds like what. Melissa Etheridge seems more likely than Faith Hill or Bonnie Tyler – anyone have any ideas?

I’m pretty certain it’s Faith Hill doing the country version. But it’s been covered here and there for ages.

FWIW Melissa Etheridge does a cover of it on her new greatest hits album.

The Road Less Traveled

Yeah, I’ve heard a version or two over the years…

I thought Faith Hill was kind of “country lite” – but have no idea where I got this idea from.

Alas, there’s no sound card on this machine – effin’ IT fascists – I guess I’ll have to wait till I get home to try to figure this out.

I always thought it was an unseemly display of hubris for bubble-gum Faith Hill to try to cover Janis.

This part…

(bolding mine) makes me suspect that it wasn’t Faith Hill.

So Faith Hill is country lite? Gotcha.

It’s sounding like Melissa Etheridge is who I’m looking for – as I said, though, no sound card on this machine, so I’ll have to wait till tonight.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think that would be a most righteous band name.

Once tonight comes, do check the remix that Faith Hill did, on this album:

I’m not quite sure what you’d define as kickin’. But I like this track myself, and it isn’t what I’d exactly call country lite.

Imagine my astonishment – it was Faith Hill, though not the mix chrisk linked to.

Thanks for your help, all.
