Pillars of Eternity official thread!

Who are the Doemels? I’m a little lost on the factions so far. I wasn’t aware there was a third one. Are they the spies?

I just got to level 6, but I skipped the castle. I mean the one in the north. The guys name escapes me while I’m posting at work. Either that or I’m getting old and losing my memory :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway I just defeated him. Wow, at level 6 that was a breeze. I assume it was meant to be done at level 3-4?

I’m decked out in heavy armour now. I’ll have to go back and try that tomb in Heritage Hills again

I need to advance the other city quests as well. I think I have a long way to go in this game.

They’re an organized crime syndicate. I’m sure I spelled it wrong. They aren’t like the Shadow Thieves’ from Baldur’s Gate II. They kind of rub it in your face that siding with them is pretty seedy.

I haven’t met them yet then. Thanks

Yeah, they’re… not exactly the most complex villains in the game. And you can join them, so I suppose it was just there for the players who wanted to see what it was like to kick some puppies. I mean, they are really nasty, to the point where it’s actually kinda funny.

The Dozens and the knights have their blind spots and bad eggs, but the Doemenels are just violent, sadistic thugs. The funny bit is that this is the part I don’t really accept. Given just how many toes they cross - and I mean, these guys piss off everyone - it’s hard to see how they haven’t yet had their heads taken off.

There is no Red Harvest scenario in the game, it seems, so I think next playthrough I’m just going to see what I can do about wiping those fuckers out. Then the Dozens and the Knight Riders can fight for the scraps.

What is the level cap?

12 I believe, at least that’s as high as the tables go on the game’s wiki.

Two months later, I know but : yes it does.

You know what? Thank you!

I tried timing it and it wasn’t clear. It’s a very good talent for monks.

I just bought this game over the weekend, played through the introduction, and am having lots of trouble figuring out how to give commands to my character (and the one guard companion) when the combat starts. My party just seems to stand there – I can’t seem to move them into melee range to attack (at least not smoothly) or get my Ranger character to shoot his bow, etc.

Is there some sort of introductory guide on how to play the game for someone who’s never played this kind of game before? (unless you count Dungeon Siege many years ago). I love D&D but never got around to playing all the Bioware, etc., party-based games that Pillars is like, so I’m quite baffled right now.

All the in-game help that kept popping up wasn’t useful - all about things like reputation and such, and all I want to know is how do I loot the wolf that we just killed that’s sparkling as if it’s got something valuable on it.

I will see if I can’t make a short tutorial for you tomorrow. Sorry, I didn’t catch this until late.

Is anyone else having problems patching this on Steam?

It keeps downloading the same patch over and over.

I uninstalled it last night, hopefully reinstalling it will solve the problem.

Sorry this took so long. Here is a brief guide to the very basics of play.

Thanks smiling bandit, I think that’ll really help.

I suspect that part of my problem is after playing Diablo II/III and World of Warcraft for so long, I’m reflexively right-clicking to attack things, and that’s not how Pillars’ interface works.

2 Part expansion officially announced!!!

WWWWOOOOOOOOooooooootttttt!!!%*(#&@$)

E3 preview

Trailer

Some details:

  • New areas to explore.
  • Will open up as a enw quest after unlocking stronghold in the main campaign
  • 2 new companions
  • Multi-class talents
  • Improved targeting reticule
  • party AI
  • Will give you option to scale up to your level (in case you’re playing with an end game party).

Backers get both parts for free.

Currently you can get PoE: Hero Edition for well better than the Steam sale price at:
GamesPlanet: ~$21 after conversion
GamesRocket: $18.95 (May require giving your phone number for an automated confirmation call)

Both are legitimate, licensed retailers and not grey market sites like G2A, CDKeys, etc. Anyway, I was hoping for a 50%+ off price from Steam but it looks as though 33% was the best they were going to do.

Why is it so difficult to find system requirements on official game web sites these days?

You’re better off looking at the Steam page for the game.

The first part of the first expansion pack is out today on Steam: Pillars of Eternity - The White March.

Early reviews are comparing it to BG’s Tales of the Sword Coast. Nothing essential story wise, but a nice, polished bit of content. You get a raised level cap to lvl 14, 2 new companions, 4 new areas, one extensive dungeon and one smaller one. Also all the cool changes they’ve made to the game - improved AI, UI, game mechanics, and companion scripting.

Personally, I think I’m going to hold off, even though as a backer, I get it for free. I’m just finishing my second playthrough of Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong is waiting for me - I want to do some Age of Wonders 3 as well, and then Xcom 2 is on the horizon.

So I figure I’ll wait for part 2 to hit, and then do an entire re-play of Pillars.

Yeah, I too pre-paid for the expansion, but I’ll wait. I’ve recently gotten the new DLC for Inquisition. Then I need to do the end game for Witcher 3. Then I need to finish Divinity: Original Sin before the sequel comes out. Also, I need to go back and finish Witcher 1 + 2. Also, I need to actually make it past that dragon at the bottom of the dungeon in my home base in Project Eternity itself, and then of course go on with that plot. Maybe the expansion will give me enough XP to make that part easier…
