Pillars of Eternity official thread!

Yeah, as usual I’m already changing my mind. Saw a bit of playthrough, so now I’m eager to try it. I think I might play it before jumping on Shadowrun: Hong Kong.

Hmmm… how’s the DLC for Inquisition? Anything worthwhile in terms of writing?

I haven’t gone through the Deep Roads DLC, but the Jaws of Hakkon was pretty much just another region to explore, so if you liked exploring the regions, it’s more of that. Price-wise, it’s one extra region for a quarter of the price of the whole game new. So, you might consider what value it has on that scale – but part of what they’re selling is power creep. I’ll replay it again soon, but I don’t recall it being any great shakes on story.

There’s some upscale loot, and schematics and as I understand it the same applies to the Deep Roads. Also, if you get the DLC for armor, that’s also about power rather than cosmetics. It happens that I’m currently playing through as a female Qunari mage, so the look of the armor works well with that persona. What’s really powerful about it, though, is that in that DLC, the heavy armor is wearable by anybody. So my mage has the highest defense in the party.

The Deep Roads is ok, idf you like a dungeo crawl. A bit of story, not a whole lot.

The Trespasser DLC is coming out tomorrow and is supposed to be story heavy.

I still have to finish PoE and many other games. heh

I’m actually waiting for this game to come out on consoles (have a Xbox One and PS4). The consoles are getting a definitive edition or enhanced edition or whatever they want to call it.

All I know is A LOT of people speak highly of this game so I definitely want to play it.

This game isn’t coming to consoles. It’s just not built for gamepad controls.

Divinity and Wasteland 2 are turnbased, and while not optimally controlled with a gamepad, at least work around a system where it’s possible.

That’s just not the case with PoE. Odds are, unless you’re ona tablet, whatever you used to post this, will run PoE though.

If pillars appeals to you, then not playing games on PC means you’re missing out on a ton of games that are probably right up your alley.

So any impressions out there?

Batman Arkham Knight finally works, even the batmobile sections, so I’m trying to get it out of the way before playing this.

How do the new changes affect gameplay? I’ve been watching youtube vids from this crazy fast talking Russian who describes the effects on character builds. Interesting stuff, but I haven’t really seen any gameplay for fear of spoilers.

So I ended up waiting for the second part of the expansion to drop, and that happened yesterday. Ended up rolling up a new Rogue, dual wielding rapier and dagger.

I can’t believe I found two new things on just that opening sequence, even though I’ve done it several times now, it’s cool that the game is throwing little new tidbits so early on.

Looking forward to playing through the game again, more than I thought I would even.

Anyone else replaying the game or playing for the first time?

So in the vanilla game the keep felt very much like a tacked on system. Kind of half baked. There was really nothing tying the keep to the story, except for how you come upon it in the first place, and even the Paths of old Nua were a bit grindy past level 5 or so - and didn’t feature much interesting loot.

Patch 3.0 though really makes the keep feel like an important part of your character’s adventure. They’ve added a ton of quests revolving around the keep, including a main quest where you will need to defend the keep from someone with a claim on it. There are also “dilemmas” that you will need to address from people near the keep, and finally, they’ve revamped the lower levels of the Path to make them less grindy and more challenging/fun.

And it’s all part of the free update! Really happy with the changes in the keep.

I actually stopped playing when I got to the point where I just could not beat that dragon at the bottom of the dungeon. I suppose I could have just gone on with the story and waited for more levels to make the difference, but I wandered off. Now there’s DLC, and I still haven’t finished Divinity: Original Sin: Enhanced Edition. Sigh.

D:OS enhanced is next on my plate… well I might do Wasteland 2 director’s first. I ended up wondering away from D:OS once I hit the indestructible knight things on patrol.

I will definitely play through the expansion on this Pillars of Eternity run, but I’m not sure if I’ll continue to the end game after that. Too many games. I feel like I’m neglecting Xcom 2 already and I only took like a weekend break.

Man this game is so damn good. Ended up getting up to near the end of Act 2, and I’m just now starting the expansion content - which is TOUGH at level 7-8 on Path of the Damned. Looking forward to seeing all the new stuff it offers!

Getting close on Divinity: Original Sin. I had to deal with the Invincible Death Knights by using my rogue’s shadow step power to walk past them to the boss encounter that I was clearly intended to flee from. Then the whole thing collapses and anything you didn’t loot is gone for good. Spoiler alert. But really, doing the circuit of shops is the main way I make money and find improved equipment. The shops refresh every hour, so if I have a few minutes in my day I’ll often fire up the game to see if I can buy metal bars, sinew or cloth scraps, which I can easily turn into valuable merchandise. I do this so much it’s keeping me from advancing the plot.

I’ll have to restart Pillars of Eternity when I get around to it. I sure as hell won’t remember the mechanics of the game, and I’ll have forgotten a lot of the plot. And I’ve got Sword Coast Legends, which is a similar kind of game, and not so bad, but kind of low on my list of priorities.

Holy Hells, I’m Resurecting a Zombie! (It’s on’y DnD, just Turn Undead)

By any chance, do you have any old character files from your Icewind Dale days that I could bum off of you? They are two files in your documents: usually a BIO file and a CHR file. I lost mine in a recent crash.
