Pineapple + sour apple = pear?

Some months ago I had something called an Asian Pear Mojito at PF Chang’s. I looooved it, to the point of going to PF Changs a couple of times just to have one (although I also like the food). But I don’t really eat out that much, and while there are several of these restaurants in my general area, none of them are very convenient, so I wanted to try to make one.

I know PF Chang’s doesn’t give out recipes. However, my son has a friend who’s a bartender, who came out with this recipe: 5 mint leaves muddled with 1 tablespoon sugar, plus the juice of half 3/4 of a lime (the juice of half a lime with another quarter of lime being muddle along with the mint & sugar), then add 1 oz. sour apple pucker (flavored schnapps), one oz. pineapple juice, 1½ oz. limon light rum, top off with club soda.

I thought that sounded weird, so I googled it and came up with the same. Either this is the recipe, or this is what PF Chang insists its bartenders tell people, but it’s strange. I tried it, and it’s cool and refreshing, but doesn’t particularly taste like pear, or maybe I just know too much. I can’t really compare it with the PF Chang’s drink because it’s been awhile and I’ve had a lot of mojitos in other places since then.

So how come they called it Asian Pear Mojito?

I would dub this thing a sour apple smash, myself.

Is there some kind of pear liqueur? Did the bartender lie to my son?

Always looking for the perfect mojito…I may try this one with Capt. Morgan’s spiced rum.

This recipe uses, astonishingly enough, asian pear liqueur..Perhaps that would give you the flavor you are looking for? I just googled asian pear mojito.

Great. I wonder where this page was when I was googling? Anyway, thanks.
