I’m cheating a bit with my mojito by using club soda and bottled lime juice. The real recipe calls for a tall glass filled with crushed ice, the juice of 1/2 lime, crushed mint sprig and a tablespoon of sugar-- oh yeah, a shot or two of white rum. Mix everything in together and enjoy.
Once me and beerchick had a “creamy thing” party. This called for Bailey’s, vodka, Sambuca, vanilla ice cream and a blender. They went down real smooth at one end and out real fast at the other end.
We won’t get into the time beerchick made a whole mess of jello shots. . …
How can you have a party without sangria? No recipe, really; lots of fruit, which must include apples, oranges, pears, grapes (ideally both red and green). Peaches optional. Add red wine and let soak until the flavors blend; for extra kick, macerate the chopped fruit in brandy for up to several hours, or even overnight.
And don’t even think about diluting it!Sugar, club soda, ice, and the like are for wimps.
If the party is small, one of my favorites is fresh mango daiquiris. Perfectly ripe mangos are a must for this. Add lime juice, rum, and ice to taste, and whir in the blender until smooth.
My new favorite drink: the Caipirinha! It’s Brazilian, and very similar to the mojito. It tastes SO much better, (IMHO), that it’s worth making both drinks and comparing.
Here’s the recipe:
2 tsp. (7.5 ml) Granulated Sugar
1 Lime Wedge
2 1/2 oz. (7.5 cl) Cachaca
Crush the sugar into the lime wedges in an old-fashioned glass, using the handle of a wooden spoon. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the cachaca into the glass. Stir well.
Cachaca is Brazilian white cane sugar rum.
So basically, it’s a Mojito with no mint, and with a different type of rum and extra lime.
As a bonus, here’s my sure-fire martini recipe (I won’t be surprised if this becomes a Great Debate ;))
Fill a martini glass with ice and 1 jigger Martini and Rossi White Vermouth.
Fill a shaker with ice. Add 2 jiggers Bombay Sapphire Gin.
Shake, shake, shake.
Dump the ice and vermouth out of the glass.
Strain the gin into the glass.
Add 2 green pimento stuffed olives.
This one is sickeningly sweet but a favorite for as long as I can remember. Realise of course that I can’t stand the taste of alchohol and you understand why I like it. It is mostly for parties.
Mix together the following, in your Jethro Boudine bowl.
1 can frozen fruit punch. (Do they still make 5 Alive?)
2 liters citrus soda (7up,Sprite…Dew? Idon’ know)
1 block frozen strawberries (thawed of course, juice and all)
5th (more or less) Ezoob of your choice (Vodka or Rum my faves)
Atop that red mess gently and partialy fold/float:
1 Bowl thawed Cool-whip (Optional and impressive for virgin mixes you’re going to serve to tea toddlers)
I also had a drink once called a Cocaine Lady.It looked really nasty after it sat awile, because the milk curdled, but it tasted wonderfull. Sorta like a Tootsie Roll in a glass. So, if you attempt this drink, imbibe it quick! I didn’t mix it so I know nothing of amounts, but it contained the following.
