Pinstriped pants with solid jacket?

Hello fashionistas!

I found a fantastic pair of pinstried Perry Ellis pants on super-clearance the other day and had to pick the up! The problem is, all the rest of my suits are solid colors. Can I wear pinstriped pants with a solid jacket?

The Pants: Black with grey pinstripes.

The Jackets: Either solid black or solid navy blue. I also have a tweed-looking jacket that I can throw into the mix.

What say you, Dopers with more fashion sense than I?

Yes! I have always admired folks who can mix and match a flawless, but unexpected ensemble. I’m pretty conservative, so I’d probably stick to the solid black jacket with a white or grey feminine styled top to soften what are to me masculine pinstripes.

Here’s a pic of pinstripes paired with a black jacket (not the top I would choose, however).
ETA: Wait…you’re a dude, aren’t you? Scratch the feminine top. Here’s a more appropriate image.

Tweed + pinstripes sounds like a bad combo, but a solid black jacket oughta work well with your unexpected find. Coordinates without being matchy-matchy.

The last thing you would want to do is find a striped jacket of a different shade to wear with those slacks. Solid over striped works fine.

A sleek modern-cut leather jacket, per that picture, does look like a really safe and sharp bet. Really anything sharp that would bring a different texture or surface to the look sounds good.

Avoid the navy blue/black combo. This pairing almost certainly wouldn’t work.

This would be best suited to a bolder pinstripe.
