I just watched a short helmet cam vid and commentary of the Taipan capture.
is it my imagination or are we [in general, not me and a buddy type we :D] actually starting to fight back instead of ransoming shipping that has been taken?
The problem isn’t that individual pirates are hard to find or capture. The problem is that the real organised crime behind the piracy stays safely onshore. All the navy can do is pick off the odd speedboat full of desperate young men with AK’s and RPG’s, and there is no shortage of any of those in the parts of the world where piracy is common.
The real Masterminds behind the piracy can easily find more pirates to replace those who are captured, and for the individual pirates the danger to their life posed by the various navies of the world probably falls well behind the threat from their own crappy boats.
From a pirates point of view, being captured might even be a positive thing, because depending on who they are captured by or where they are taken they might have a shot at an asylum claim (realistically I imagine all the forces involved are careful to make sure this can’t happen, but it certainly reduces the possibility of their prisoners ending up properly incarcerated, and the suggestion that it could occur is probably used to motivate would be pirates).
In Dutch, “ij” is the usual representation of the letter/ligature “ij” (In handwriting, sometimes “ÿ”). We only use “y” for loan words, and it’s pronounced differently.
Hopefully something will happen politically eventually making the thread reduce - some sort of political stability would be fantastic.
Mainly joking, I play EVE with a mostly european alliance and I love hearing all the different accents in TS - we have a few dutch that will forget their english when they are in hard combat and start talking to each other in dutch
