Which is fine, except that Jack still has to use the compass when he’s piloting the Interceptor. I don’t know, it just bugs me, but not enough to say that this isn’t my favorite movie of the year so far.
'ware, fellow sailors! It be the Sig Pirates of the SDMB!
Yarr, ‘n’ I be Captain Ferry.
We post and shout and argue and swear
Drink up me hearties, yo ho!
Do I see with mine own eyes the dread sig pirate Cap’n BuckleberryFerry? Ahoy, matey! Hoist the Jolly Roger and let’s drink the rum til we can’t steal sigs no more!
I need a first mate–who be with me? It be dreadful fun says you; it be dreadful hard work says I.
What I’d like to know is, why is it that everyone who knew Bootstrap comments on how Will “looks just like him” only after they find out that he is, in fact, ol’ Bootie’s son?
Ah, but I’m far too distracted by the movie’s finer points to be too concerned with that. I’m particularly taken with Johnny Depp’s expressiveness. I think he’d have done well in silents.
In fact, Tim Burton makes that same remark on the commentary of Edward Scissorhands. It’s very true, I agree.
Well, they hadn’t seen Bill for nigh on ten years at that point. And it’s not like they had photographs to remind themselves what he looked like.
However, Jack does comment when he first meets Will, “Have I threatened you before? You look familiar.”
Depp also uses the word “bejesus” at one point. That word wasn’t coined until 1908 according to m-w.com.
Is that just after he wakes up on the island with Elizabeth? I was wondering what he said…
No, it’s when he’s going into the cave to lure out the pirates, and he says something like “they’ll come out all unaware and you shoot the bejesus out of them” (that’s severe paraphrasing, btw).
I think the line is:
“…they come out here in their little boats, and you blast the bejesus out of them wi’ your little cannons.”
I didn’t know “bejesus” was an anachronism, but I thougnt it sounded odd.
I think he said something like “well, now there’ll be no living with her” but this is when he’s marching to the other side of the island after she’s turned all that rum into a huge bonfire. Heh heh.
I’ll be yer mate, ferry! Er, I mean Captain ferry!
Peg, that line in your post was after she said “The whole freaking Royal Navy will be out looking for me…!” And then he sees the ship offloading marines to his little island.
Gonna see it again in a little bit!
A wizard song for thee says:
Um, could someone please point out where in the movie this occurred? I’ll admit Orlando Bloom is some mighty fine eye candy, but I didn’t notice him doing any acting.
There’s a scene where one of Sparrow’s crew (his replacement crew) is explaining the pirate’s history to Turner, and Turner says, “So that’s why he’s all <goes into loose-limbed physical impersonation>?” Definitely one actor commenting on another’s performance.
Arr, First Mate NoClue, ye be lucky enough to name me fine ship. What say ye?
Peg, I was referring to the very moment when Sparrow wakes up–he mutters something that I can’t quite make out. Then again, maybe we’re not meant to make it out. ::shrug::
Arr.
There’ll be a zombie pirate robot ninja monkey on board for our maiden voyage, right 'ferry? Er, I mean Captain 'ferry?
I think we should name the ship “Ted.”
Cabin Boy Dewey, that there zombie pirate robot ninja monkey will be the one to chew through the rope that holds us ashore.
And ye not be the one what can name this grand vessel, thought I be sure to pass along the suggestion.
Sign me up for the crew of the ‘Ted’! We’ll plunder and pillage our black little hearts out, and get letters of marque from Cecil against the ignorant!
