No clue, Buckle… Capt’n Buckleberry. Due to a combination of the fact that I sometimes have a difficult time understanding accents and the theater I saw the movie in (lovely theater, not the best sound/acoustics in the world), I am sure I missed a dozen lines.
Loved this movie – great fun! Have any of you read the review (can’t remember where I saw it) that calls this a great “swishbuckler?” After I saw Depp’s marvelous performance, I understood the reference. <g>
To quote my friend Dan, "Saying he saved the movie is an understatement. He CARRIED the movie!
Oh and about why they didn’t realize they were all skeletons, it might have been because of the crazy moon in the movie. I mean there must have been at least 3 full moons in a row. That certainly isn’t normal. So there could’ve been a whole string of new moons to balance it out!
I was listening to one of the tracks on the soundtrack today and Dominic… who isn’t even 8 yet… came in and said “Is that the music from Pirates of the Caribbean?”
Dayam. I’m impressed that he could recognize it like that!
This movie makes me want to do things like wear pirate clothes and pretend I’m walking the plank when I go swimming down at the pool and say “arr” a lot and maybe even write fanfic which is something I DO NOT DO. So fear, me hearties.
Gunslinger and I are considering contracting a leatherworker to make him a replica of Captain Jack Sparrow’s hat.
Writing fanfic, eh? I am neither a reader nor a writer of the stuff, but if you included me as a character, I wouldn’t mind. I could be stranded on an island with Captain Jack…
It wasn’t until the credits were rolling at the end that I realized I forgot to look for Trevor Goddard in the movie. I checked over at imdb and learned he played Grapple.
Look here for a list of memorable quotes from the movie, including Grapple’s line.
Query: I’m led to understand that there’s another little something after the credits, which I (fool that I am) didn’t stay for. Can somebody spoil it for me? Please?
Kn(thank you, Jack)ckers
At the end of the credit roll, cut back to pirate cave. Dead Geoffrey Rush on the rock. Oh no, we think, is he not really dead? But then pan across, and the little monkey is swimming back into the cave, apparently drawn by the scent of a floating apple. Then it notices the stone chest of gold. Since we’ve seen through the movie that it’s been trained to retrieve these gold pieces whenever it sees them, it hops up out of the water and onto the edge of the chest, grabbing up one of the coins.
And then it spins to the camera and screeches at us in extreme closeup with its suddenly zombified face! Booga booga booga!
Cut to black.
Cute, but not really worth waiting for. And I’m hoping it’s not intended to set up the sequel; it’s just a cute gag at the end, like the Scrat frozen in the block of ice on the tropical island at the end of Ice Age.
(By the way, an after-credit gag is called a “monk’s reward” by Roger Ebert because you sit alone, or almost alone, in the theater waiting for it.)
