Welsh? Welsh guy? Marry me? ;).
And I think that the Welsh for fuck is something like bwchio. No, I can’t conjugate it…haven’t gotten that far yet. I think that’s actually “he fucked.”
Anyway…am I right?

he he he he he, sorry, I couldn’t help that
Regrettably, perhaps, I was born in Wales, but my parents weren’t… and we moved to England when I was only five, so I know only a few words of Welsh (none of them obscene).
I’m (thinks back over recent ancestry)… about 5/16ths assorted Celtic strains, if that turns anybody on.
For those of you who don’t know, I do not think Steve Wright is a troll, a sock or a blithering idiot.
I was referring to Quagmire, who is conspicuous by his absence.
couldn’t agree with you more.
I would love to see a ONE line sig rule, myself.
It would force people to rotate them more if they had some undying desire to let everyone know about how Cecil Loves them (or what have you) or some ‘witty’ bon mot.
I just dont understand the point of having sigs.
And as for the getting rid of sigs=stiffling fun?
give me a break. Most of the sigs are stale and self-promoting anyway.
Opinions differ on this subject…
Sorry, Twisty - I should have realised. Unfortunately, I was feeling a little… sensitive … to perceived criticism yesterday. (Events are leading up to a Full and Frank Exchange of Views between me and my crazed Australian boss… ummm… anybody know of any jobs going for a COM/web developer? I work cheap.)
Would it be possible for members who like Long Signatures to just put them (the Long Signatures) somewhere else and provide a Link to them in their (one-line) Board Signatures?
If people reading the Board Signatures are interested in reading the Long Signatures they just click on the Link!
Long Signatures could contain a member’s Life Story. There could be diary information, Home Movies, testimonials from previous employers, reports on the member’s sexual performance (and proclivities), Songs, Tunes, details of how often they change their Underwear, shopping habits. The possibilities are Endless.
I demand that the Management implements this one-line Board Signature stratagem Now!
If this is not done, I will feel victimised and ignored.
“I have had the same sig for over 2 years now.” = creativity??
Cant…process…doesnt…compute…
Hey, Angel- quarter-Welsh over here. Sort of like a quarter-pounder, except much harder to spell.
I’m an Italian-Welsh mix, which means I get really depressed, but really loud about it.
you know how every now and then a poster will nominate another as “one trick pony of the month”?
It would be swell if we could have a Razzies style award ceramony for sigs.
lets see…
categories could include:
oldest
most insipid
most unoriginal
most references to Cecil
most self congratulating
most shameless plug
…
yeah I know, the mods frown on award ceramonies - I am being sarcastic.
I really wish, in ernest, that someone could explain why four lines of sigs are needed or desired. I mean if its so important to put all this information up, why not make a website and use that nifty little button below to link to it?
yawn Not even original.
I don’t understand why the limit that’s imposed is imposed. It can’t really be a data issue, because the little button that says “profile” itself is 670 bytes long. Compare that to the message that I have just typed here, which is about half that i.e. the number of characters contained in this message. Character count of this message = 345.
I did not know that but you talk about number of individual sigs per thread. Weirddave was complaining about number of lines per individual post. So your example is not relevant at all.
Three lines or four lines of text is still just one process and the extra line is not significant at all in terms of overhead.
Not that I am criticising the board policy.
Good question. I don’t know the answer to that, but I’ll find out.
I’m sure most people will agree that a signature can be too long. If the signature took up half a page on your screen, then it would detract from the thread. So if your argument is that no signature can be too long, I’m going to have to disagree in strong terms.
If your argument is “why is the limit set to its current value?”, my answer would be:
If we make the limit arbitrary, then every time a staff member sees a signature that staff member will have to make a snap judgement “Do I allow this one or not?” If you allow ten lines for Poser X and nine lines for Poster Y, then you would have to justify each decision. I support the idea of having an explicit limit.
What should the size be? I think that for any saying that a poster wants to repeat in each thread (or even each post), 4 lines is plenty. Of course, you’re talking to a guy that doesn’t use signatures at all, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt.
