Just joining the chorus in saying the rules are ridiculously misguided, and, IMO, have the intention of running down the board.

It’s a business model, see. Stir rules around so even the staff muddles about in confusion, then inform posters you still want their money but they have to shut the hell up. Here’s the genius part: do it without warning!

At the risk of flying too close to the truth and getting burned (if not banned), here’s my take on what is driving all of this:
This is simply a rather heavy-handed attempt to protect a specific member from verbal abuse.
It’s the only way I can explain limiting the abuse exclusion to members. It’s ok to say, “Mother Teresa is a cunt”, but not ok to say, “BJMoose is a cunt”? What makes me better than she?
Well, nothing, of course. Ed isn’t trying to protect me (after fifty years of listening to some damned rodent calling me a dope, I’m used to it), but I strongly suspect he is trying to protect someone in this roundabout way.
