Well, your sister did break up your family. 
My grandmother lives in Homedale Idaho, shes a devout Lutheran and has never given up hope that my mother will one day see the light and go to church. When I was a child I could remember her talking about how the Jews are controlling the media, Mexicans are nothing but thieves and democrats want to build a super highway through the US so we can have even more illegal immigrants cashing welfare checks.
As she’s gotten older her husband and friends passed away so she spends more and more of her time at this small close minded church, she reads and digests the ridiculous pamphlets they send to her and during the last election when that old woman said to John McCain “I know Obama is a Muslim and a terrorist isn’t he?” I had to rewind to make sure that wasn’t my grandma.
A few weeks ago she told my uncle, “I hope someone kills Obama”.
Wow.
It sounds like the lot of you are related to taxi drivers.
I’ve only met one taxi driver that was that bad.
Since most subjects of conversation are off-limits with him, do you ever discuss sports? Just out of curiosity, is he the type of person who suddenly finds nothing objectionable about black people when they’re the star players on his favorite teams?
I had a bigoted old farmer friend who hated all niggers (and jews, and …) who suddenly had to get just a hair less bigoted when the Vikings hired Denny Green as head coach. To quote him “Well, he’s a nigger, but he’s gotta be better than Les Steckel”.
Unfortunately, he was wrong about that, too.

My personal favorite bigoted comment to hear from a relative is “The robin doesn’t mate with the bluejay.” Evidently, that’s the perfect proof that marrying outside one’s race is a crime against nature. :rolleyes:

No, but I don’t follow sports at all. I don’t really talk to him much at all. We’re not at all close (he’s 16 years older than me and we never even lived in the same house). I’m not close with my other two siblings (13 and 19 yrs older) either. I have much more in common with my older neices (the oldest being a year older than me) than I do with them.
Thank you but I wrote him out of my life when I found out he beat his son daily for nearly a year before he escaped, trying to “Beat the gay out of him” like God told him too. He has also advocated a yearly hunting season on Mexicans to thin the herd, and taught his 3 year old grandson to shot so he will be prepared “When the Nigers come for them”. All while quoting the bible and telling the rest of us we are going to hell.
That’s pretty much my Grandpa. Tiger Woods is like… his hero, yet whenever he visits he inevitably will make one comment about “the coons taking over the mall [in Madison].” The weirdest hang up of his has to be Mexicans, though. He’s a partially retired plumbing/heating specialist (at one point was the youngest Master Plumber in Wisconsin) and does construction (most of my family has one member in a unit that does some form of carpentry). He constantly decries Mexicans as being lazy and freeloading and whatnot except for… every Mexican he’s met, who is a great “exception” and a nice, hardworking individual he’d jump on any project with. So yeah.
Hee, I’ve been married to the singuy for 30+ years. Last year his Mom got off on a tangent about how bad Catholics are and finally concluded that marrying one was worse than marrying a black (let’s not count how many wrongs are in that statement). Note that I was Catholic when I married the guy, my entire family is still Catholic and MIL had recently attended my daughter’s wedding* in a Catholic church.
On the other hand, my family believes that if it’s on FOX it’s the TRUTH, all of it. Don’t get me going.

Les Steckel’s record was 100% losing seasons. Hard to be worse than that.
When I married my half-black, half-Oriental wife, none of my relatives ever had any problem with it, neither the Southerners nor the Northerners, all the way up to my 91-year-old great aunt. In fact, they love her to death and if we ever had any trouble, they’d probably keep her on their Christmas card list and cross me off.

Ugh…my Dad. He has such an irrational hate and fear of Islam. I mean, there are so many rational reasons to hate a religion. Islam is more violent? Read the old testament, fer cryin’ out loud! This puts me in the exceedingly difficult position of having to defend a religion. Especially when I’m so good at ridiculing religions.
Wait…are you saying their scam e-mails will some day not be enough and they’ll become a bit more aggresive?
My grand father had some bad experiences with “Mexicans”, through out his life. Almost all the bullies in his school were Mexican. And almost all the fights he ever got into were with Mexicans. To this day he’s a bit wary of Latino culture. But he could be a lot worse. I think part of it is because he absolutely loves Tex-mex, and all the best ones in his area are run by Mexicans.
