ONLY 5%???
Less than 1% of the US is in prison. Looks like the police need to point their attention at gun shop owners.

I don’t think that anyone is accusing you of intentionally breaking the law, they are just of the opinion that you may be providing lawbreakers with the means to commit homicides, whether you know it or not. And you can never know if the person you are selling a gun to is going to be that person. So, the only way to ensure that you aren’t complicit in such a thing is to not be in that business.
I’m a gun owner and I don’t have that same opinion. Though I’ve had other issues I’ve expressed in this thread not pertaining to your business ventures.
He doesn’t sell the guns used in crimes. He plants them on the innocent when arresting them.
Huge difference.
What?
Just feels like you’re going that route.
You’ve never been convicted. What a fucking hero. Have a cookie.
The police don’t regulate gun dealers, the feds do.
And I was just quoting a Brady rep from a media statement she made. If I can find that video I will surely post it. But she did use the word “only”.

Do you have a cite for that?
You do realize the folks you are arguing with are deliberately disingenuous and many of them are legitimately nutty?
You do realize that I’m enjoying their outrage. One single Dunhams store sells more guns in a month than I sell in a year. I’m small potatoes.
Never mind
One single Dunhams store sells more guns in a month than I sell in a year. I’m small potatoes.
You keep bringing this up, so you must think that this is actually a good argument. I’m curious. Does this “small potatoes” logic apply to drug dealers you bust, too? Do you let them off with a shrug and a “well, you’re no El Chapo!”?
I have never had the BATFE walk into my store and say “we want to see your bound book. One of the guns found at a mass shooting scene tracks from the distributor to your dealership and we want to see if it was purchased by the shooter or someone else (aka a straw purchase or if it was stolen from the original purchaser).”
Sure, for a mass murder, they are going to track such things down. Do they bother for a hold-up, a single murder, just a gun recovered from a felon?
You are a cop. Say that you pick up a criminal holding a gun, do you track down the serial number and go check out the FFL’s bound book, even if it’s in another state? I doubt it.
You could have lots of your guns in the hands of criminals doing criminal things, and you’d never know.
But, let’s put it this way, if one of your guns was used in a mass shooting, would that make any difference in your choice of occupation? (Or would you put up an advertisement, like gas stations do when they sell a winning lottery ticket?)

Nope. it only gets checked to see if it was reported stolen, then the data gets turned over to BATFE. That other stuff is their turf. If you knew as much as you think you know you would know that but you don’t know as much as you think you know. Know what I mean?
Ranking on me for owning a business that I grew from a kitchen table. What does it benefit you? You’re not going to make me feel bad or guilty about it. I’m not going to change my mind about it. All I’m doing is laughing at you for wasting your time over it. All your doing is maybe raising your own blood pressure with hatred. Let me in on it: what’s your point? What do you expect to achieve?

Skinny Fred slinging Meth a couple towns over grew his business from a kitchen table, too. Doesn’t make it admirable.
One single Dunhams store sells more guns in a month than I sell in a year. I’m small potatoes.
But…people who know guns would never buy one from Dunhams and people who do not know guns would find your offerings mostly out of their price range. Close?
You do realize that I’m enjoying their outrage.
Yes, we realize you’re a trolling asshole.
The thing about suicide by firearm is that it’s almost always fatal, whereas someone attempting suicide by other means is more likely to survive and to be saved and treated
Also its very fast to implement. If you have a sudden pang of hopelessness, it just takes under a minute to go the the gun safe and make an impulsive but irrevocable decision. Other methods take a bit of planning, preparation and time to implement which gives time the sufferer an opportunity to calm down and think things through.

No, I knew that perfectly well. I asked the question knowing the answer you would give. I’ve seen what kind of backlock the BATFE has to contend with, especially since it’s illegal to digitize records or automate searches.
So, you concede that if the guns that you sold were used in a crime, you would likely never hear about it, correct? Even more so if the gun is never recovered.

I assume that you have the same respect for the drug dealer down the street that runs a business they grew from their kitchen table?
What does it benefit you? You’re not going to make me feel bad or guilty about it. I’m not going to change my mind about it. All I’m doing is laughing at you for wasting your time over it. Not sure what your point is in fantasizing about motivations, but it’s not out of hatred or anything like that. What’s your point in bragging about selling guns? It’s probably the one of the easiest small businesses to open, you shouldn’t be all that proud or smug of your “success”.
But, I did see that you didn’t answer my question, which indicates that you would most likely put up an advertisement if one of your guns was used in a mass shooting.

Or off the nightstand.
Let’s make this even more direct. You, personally, sell guns. And you, personally, arrest people, part of which would include temporarily confiscating any guns they might have on their person at the time. Surely, any mentally-sound person, in such a situation, would at least occasionally check to see if the gun you confiscated was one that you sold, even if only out of curiosity. You don’t need the feds’ cooperation to do this; you have direct access to all of the relevant information your own self. So, have you ever checked this?
I’m guessing that you haven’t. And I’m guessing that if you did, you’d find at least a few of the guns you sold. And I’m further guessing that the reason you’ve never checked is because you yourself know that, if you did check, sometimes you would find that, and you prefer to be able to pretend that you wouldn’t.
But hey, if you’re confident that you wouldn’t find any of your own guns, go ahead and start keeping track.
