The only thing I’d want to pit in this whole fiasco is the gang of people who have no fucking clue how the legal system works.
It ultimately doesn’t matter if Zimmerman racially profiled Martin. It doesn’t matter if he got out of his car and confronted Martin. It doesn’t matter if Zimmerman is white or hispanic any more than it matters that Martin was black.
What mattered is whether or not the prosecution could prove BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT that Zimmerman murdered Martin. Apparently the presence of evidence showing self-defence was enough to crack that reasonable doubt in the jury’s mind.
That’s what matters. It wouldn’t have mattered one whit if Zimmerman had driven along the street hollering “Go home nigger!” at Martin for 3 blocks, and then got out and confronted him. What would have mattered is that at the point where Zimmerman shot Martin, if there was proof beyond a reasonable doubt that he murdered him, and didn’t act in self-defence. It really doesn’t matter if he antagonized him ahead of time.
That’s what the people I want to pit don’t seem to understand. It’s about as dumb as saying that because I left something in sight and someone else stole it, that the guy who stole it is somehow not guilty of stealing because I left it in sight. We all know that’s idiotic, but when it comes to race-related shootings, apparently logic and common sense goes out the window.
Have you seen the stats about people whose name starts with a D committing crimes against people with green eyes? It’s way out of proportion. It gets me so angry! The next time I meet an individual whose name starts with the letter D, I’m going to punch him in the face.
The real surprise is that the “rational, disinterested” voice reaches exactly the same conclusion as the crazy, evil, stupid voice. Quite the unique coincidence, huh?
That’s not surprising at all. A lot of stupid people on this board reach the exact same conclusion as the stupid race-baiters out there. It really doesn’t mean anything except that people sometimes let their emotions/ white guilt get in the way and that evil people sometimes come to the same conclusion as rational, disinterested people, albeit coming from a totally different and rather distasteful way.
When you have twice fought for your life against the likes of Trayvon Martin and Rodney King, perhaps you will be able to compose a response connected to reality and actually makes some kind of sense. Never having had much money, I’ve not been able to insulate myself from the ugly realities of street violence in the city, the bulk of which is due to young black men like Trayvon Martin. I’m confident that I have a much more accurate picture of interracial violence in modern America than you do, and I’m even more confident when I say that racial violence by blacks against whites, Asians and Hispanics is of absolutely no concern whatsoever to progressives. You may rant and cavil all you please, but the simple fact is that the black community is responsible for most of the racial violence in the United States today – and Trayvon Martin’s attack on George Zimmerman was a glaring example of that fact.
Oh, and now the rational, disinterested voice has concluded that those who conclude differently are stupid, emotional, white guilters. So rational! So disinterested! Do you have a newsletter?
“A lot of stupid people on this board reach the exact same conclusion as the stupid race-baiters out there. It really doesn’t mean anything except that people sometimes let their emotions/ white guilt get in the way”
…you were in no way implying that those who conclude differently are stupid, emotional, white guilters! Why, it’s not rational or disinterested at all to read your words as they were written! Any rational, disinterested voice could conclude that.
If that were the case, there are many other court cases that should also have a high and equally visceral reaction to a verdict. Can you name 3 where a similar reaction, for either of the reasons you gave, was seen? I mean, if it’s happiness that the law is being followed, then surely there would be multiple instances where a partisan crowd reacted like this one I saw, right?
For instance, when Tom Delay was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering or when Koon & Powell were found guilty of civil rights violations. Were there partisan Republican crowds cheering those convictions?
Or how about when Clinton’s impeachment ended and he was acquitted? Surely Republicans would have cheered the verdict, right, since it meant that the law was followed? :dubious:
Somehow, I imagine it being a predominately black-attended church, and a few feet off to the left of your body is torn-in-half sign that reads "N****RS GO HOME!..
