Pitting Traitorous Black Male Trump Supporters

And that’s exactly what I’ve been criticizing. This is the media landscape we are faced with. We know that. If we don’t find a way to survive, that’s a failure.

Hmmmmm.

I would be completely unsurprised if it turned out that that was a gleeful act of vile racist mockery perpetrated by an actual Trump supporter or organization of same.

I would also be completely unsurprised if it turned out that that was a hoax perpetrated by a Trump opponent, or organization of same, to make Trump supporters look bad.

If the latter, I’m personally against cosplaying vile racist mockery, even to make Trump supporters look bad. I’m pretty confident that Trump supporters can be trusted to make themselves look bad, without unsolicited assistance.

This is mere blame-shifting ass-covering. Yeah, how dare the Democratic Party run campaigns for responsible law-abiding candidates based on serious policy positions to address real problems. Why won’t they realize that voters just want to be lied to and entertained with recreational outrage like on reality TV??!??

Voters are, by definition, not children. It’s not the responsibility of the Democratic Party to be “the grownups” and make voters stop being ignorant and irresponsible. (Although right now there are a lot of low-key panicking non-Democrats who are clinging to that narrative so as to be able to blame Democrats for the consequences of Republican voters’ choices in this election.)

Whenever possible divert attention from the victimizers to the victims, because while the victims argue the victimizers have a clear and easy path.
Classic strategy there.

Why is it the republicans always seem to be the ones better at a successful communication strategy?

Because they tell people what they want to hear instead of what’s true.

There is a non-zero possibility of black people being shipped to whichever country is convenient.

Portraying the Democratic Party as victims is a surefire way to lose the electorate. No one wants to vote for a loser who’s crying about being victimized; they want to vote for someone who makes them feel like they have a plan to lead them to victory.

Because they have a massive propaganda machine on AM and FM radio, Sirrius Radio, television, twitter, and whatever other platforms you care to itemize.

73+ million Americans who voted for Trump this time around is my cite to contradict you on that point.

Maybe nobody with the inclination to support a Democrat wants that, though. With that, I would agree.

And there’s that pesky, leviathan double-standard again.

Just like rooting for a sports team…even though you have no say and make no profit, right?
It is kind of like being an actual winner, right?

DNC leadership has been holding all-day meetings since the election. Do you think they’re sitting around and griping about stupid voters? No, they’re trying to determine how they messed up, and changes they are going to make.

Cites, please.

Yeah, the American electorate has a gigantic double standard when it comes to Republicans. This isn’t news. This has been the environment for a while now. We need to stop moaning about it, and figure out how to appeal to the electorate regardless.

I keep thinking about a quote from a book that I don’t much like–the children’s book Hatchet:

The contempt the author has for self-pity is kind of assholish IMO, but beyond that, it’s a powerful realization. You sometimes gotta take the time to grieve, to feel like shit, even to figure out who to blame. But that doesn’t do the work that needs doing. Once you’re done grieving, the work is still there.

I’m not especially interested in figuring out who to blame. Sure, Trump’s a fascist to the core, and sure, the majority of voters apparently prefer that to someone who’s intelligent and a bit wonkish and also a Black woman. It fuckin sucks. Now what?

The work that needs to be done by people who want a gentler, more humane, more just world isn’t to say nasty things about the shitheads who voted for Trump. Say 'em if you gotta, but that’s not the work. The work is to figure out how to win the next election, and meanwhile how to prevent those in power from enacting their violent, inhumane, unjust policies.

No other work matters.

I think the gender issues may have played a role in many black men going to the right. Gender issues may be the democrats equivalent of abortion for the republicans. Black men and white men also for that matter are not getting behind the idea of fluid gender. It has no relation to gay rights either as no one seems to have an issue with gays.

Dude. The homophobes of the 1980s have sued today’s transphobes for copyright infringement and outright plagiarism.

When did fluid gender become an easily dismissed idea??

Always, to the Right. There are men, their God-decreed inferiors women, their property children, and nothing else.

Of course they are, and they are right to do so. It’s their job.

That doesn’t mean our analysis should only be based on what the DNC did wrong.

In my personal experience, most people that voted trump did it based on several false claims they heard on social media. And they basically didn’t hear the democrats’ positions at all; they only saw deceptively edited videos of Kamala giving the impression she never answers questions.

So, I think, even restricting our view to what democrats should do, part of the answer has to be how they engage with media. Note, I don’t even mean policy at this point, I mean they need to be better at getting access to a mic in the first place.
Legacy media hasn’t done a good enough job (and likes to put MAGAs on anyway, for conflict). Progressives have done better at embracing new media but perhaps feel disconnected from the democrat party.

But for this election, some of it was already out of their control. Musk seizing twitter and making it truth social 2.0 was a big win for orange sauron.
