Pitting UltraVires

Meanwhile, in this thread, he’s doubled down on his “I’m not a fallacy YOUR a fallacy!” with an inability to acknowledge that a pandemic and drunk driving are not the same thing.

Christ on a cracker, juries must laugh at him.

He’s either a lawyer or has been playing the very long game. (He was jtgain at the time, if memory serves.)

Why would he? In any profession there are going to be people across the board in terms of ability. Testing and certification get the worst out, but that still leaves a lot of dumbasses.

Those idiot kids you grew up with? The ones who used to have fun setting ants on fire, BB gunning squirrels, couldn’t multiple 6*7 without a calculator? They’re now firefighters, cops, doctors, lawyers, etc. It’s a large reason I don’t automatically respect people based on profession. It’s hard to elicit respect when you remember that same kid who could barely keep up in high school is now a lawyer and shows the same cognitive biases (albeit a little more intelligently) they did at 15 years old.

Some of them are responsible, maintain or extend their skills, etc. Others barely pass and do the bare minimum to maintain their qualifications to continue in those professions but expect deference automatically based solely on their profession. Which do you think applies to UltraVires?

Gah. Has he always been this stupid?

Yes he has, although back in the day I used to think “maybe he’s at least good at whatever it is he does for a living.”

Eh. It’s the old saw - what do you call a person who barely graduated and barely passed the bar exam? A lawyer.

He what?

Our brilliant lawyer also seems fairly racist, in addition to being a fucking dumbfuck. Here’s this fantastic bit of induction from our local Socrates:

For some reason, I keep forgetting that he’s jtgain.

I remember jtgain having dumb ideas, but not being so shit about the law.

BTW, did you guys catch him trying to argue that a legal ruling that said nothing about the constitutionality of abortion was in fact only valid because abortion was a constitutional right? And how he doesn’t get basic civics concepts like a state not being able to control another state?

I’m forgetting which thread it was in to look for it (and search is acting up).

WV’s dumbest lawyer clearly does not want to understand the situation surrounding a certain shooting in Georgia.

I don’t know if I should be angry with the mods for letting him continue the way he has, or should I feel bad for somebody who is clearly a moron.

I feel bad for the people who end up with him as their lawyer.

^No kidding. I wonder how many of his clients have figured out they might have a real shot at getting a new trial based on utter incompetence of representation.

This guy must his whole time drafting wills or something, right? There’s surely no way he’s ever competently represented a client in a courtroom.

I’m pretty sure this guy is a defense lawyer, based on questions he’s asked on this board.

In his Arbery thread, str8cashhomie has to explain how intent works for criminal cases.

I’m amazed that UV is a lawyer of any type.

Dumb morons,
Practice law
In a state
The Bar is low
West Virginia

Burma Shave.

Mountain justice
Dumb morons
Practice law
Just running with the riff.

It strikes me that, particularly in WV but generally everywhere else too, one could make a solid living as a defense lawyer without being particularly bright on a steady stream of drunk driving and domestic violence cases, especially if one takes a lot of plea deals.

A lawyer friend told me the key to being a defense lawyers was asking for the money up front (anybody you acquit will assume a trained monkey could have gotten an obviously innocent person off, anybody who isn’t acquitted will be disinclined to pay you), which would only help in cases of clearly brilliant legal minds like UV.

I’m honored to be a part of this historic moment.
