My brother lives in Michigan. I don’t wanna hear about the fucking mitten.
West Virginia is only singled out because that is where UltraVires lives. If he lived in a different state, then that would be the state that was pointed out as having rampant racism that UltraVires was unaware of.
I understand. So as you say, we should view its people with pity, not scorn. Just because UV is a racist asshole who thinks efforts to weaken the hold of institutional racism amount to having to “kiss ass” to minorities doesn’t mean his fellow WV’ers are like that.
Exactly, unlike Michigan, who deserve all the scorn they get.
I actually am attending school at the University of Michigan. Although currently remote.
(((From Texas)))
O.k. my mom’s relatives in Ohio called people from WV “hillikins.” I’d never heard the term then or since. Anyone???
We never do.
And I say that as an occasional Florida resident.
I always just heard “hillbilly” from my Ohio relatives. I never heard that one.
By the way, that “kiss ass” reference was inspired by this comment, actually (though not surprisingly) made by UV:
Locked thread, so it’s tricky to quote.
Weird, because I’ve never heard it from anyone else either. They were in the Columbus area. Maybe it was extremely local terminology?
My wife’s family is also from Columbus. (She grew up in a town called Brice, technically a “village”.)
I didn’t mean to imply that West Virginia was the worst state, as racism goes. Just that there are some states where it could maybe go unnoticed, if you were unobservant… but West Virginia isn’t one of them.
Again, not an either/or situation. We libtards here in neighboring Maryland hope to enact policies that will help our less affluent neighbors but of course we’re also going to ridicule them for their Trump-loving ways and unwillingness to help themselves. I see no hypocrisy there.
I don’t like the racist motherfucker, obviously, but he was clearly saying that it’s “you can call a post racist, but not a poster” that is the intellectual dodge, which is … not wrong. PAins me to say it, but there it is.
I need to hear about this fucking mitten. Where does one buy them? Do you wear a pair or just one?
I was amused when spending time with people from the lower peninsula of Michigan that they really do hold up their right hand to show you where their hometown is on the map.
Coincidentally I think calling a post racist is not a direct counter, because I do not think racism is axiomatically wrong.
Pretty sure that was UV’s point.

That was not my reading. He is saying, “calling something racist [instead of debating it on its own merit] is a dodge”
That was my reading as well.
That was my reading too. So you also think racism is not 'axiomatically wrong?![]()
