What makes the Dope interesting is that even though it rigorously adheres to reality-based mindsets, discussion of any actual subject results in 50 different understandings/policies/beliefs/perspectives/futures that are so distinct from one another that long battles inevitably follow.
I know that “echo chamber” has lost any meaning and has become a mere slur to slap an enemy across the face with, but intellectually the Dope is more a cacophony of reactions to headlines than a consistent political devotee of any brand of leftism.
That’s both the best and worst thing about the left.

I’ve also been saying for years that the vast majority of the “we need guns to protect us from a tyrannical government” crowd would happily salute and hold the door open as fascism marched into America as long as they got to keep their guns. I regret nailing that one.

only under the most tortured definition of “conservative”. I would consider myself the former but definitely not a supporter of the modern Republican party, either openly or clandestinely.
I don’t think I can think of anyone who is an open supporter of the Republican Party but isn’t literally trolling the board in the process.
I can’t give you an example, not because the board hounds them away, but because if they come here it’s never to have any legitimate discussions.
I think that says more about the Republican Party than this board.
…Maybe Octopus? People don’t care for him for the most part, because around the time Trump was first elected he started getting trollsome, but outside of political discussions he actually can be pretty pleasant and even thoughtful. Personally, I kind of like him to be honest.
And even Octopus isn’t totally supportive of the Republicans. His very last post (from a couple of weeks ago) was to criticize Trump and the Republicans for trying to start up shit with Canada.

why me? I have no inclination to do so. I don’t really understand the question though. I don’t see the need to lie to be a supporter of Trump. You would need to believe lies of course, but that is a different matter.
