The animation, as usual for Pixar, looks stunning. There are some interesting details that go whipping by in the trailer, such as jet contrails that looks like tire tracks, landscape features that resemble Cadillac Ranch, and grandstands full of little cars watching the bigger cars race. I’m not so easily sold on some of the voice acting or story, but for the novelty factor alone of Paul Newman playing a Hudson Hornet, I’ll see it.
A 1951 Hudson Hornet. With some surprises. I’m willing to bet that, like the General Lee, it’s a moonshiner’s car.
Which makes him an ancestor to NASCAR.
And he’s not the only one. Richard Petty’s character is either a '69 Daytona Charger or a '70 Superbird; I’m guessing the latter because that’s what he drove.
Yeah, I mean, how many times are we going to see another one of those tired old “monsters work together scaring children around the world to power their city and have a chase through teleporting magic doors” plots. Shee-eesh. Give us something original, Pixar!
So… am I the only one who noticed Larry the Cable Guy’s voice?
If he ever gives up stand up, I bet he’d do great cartoon voices.
