In the Bhuddist tradition, there are remote isolated valleys in the Himalyas, where time stops-people entering them are said to never age. These places are intented for Bhodissatvas to renew their strength, and guide others toward Nirvana. One such a valley was “Shangra-La”-the basis for the James Hilton novel…does anybody know of the existance of such places, and how long do they persist (according to Bhuddist tradition, they last perhaps 300-500 years), and then revert to standard time fl;ow. Anybody know more about these places?
Most recorded instances of time stoppage manifest themselves around business conference rooms and schools on the last day of class.
Time is one of the basic laws on the universe and doesn’t “stop flowing” anywhere outside of black hole event horizons (and we’re not really sure about that one). If time did stop as you described it, we would never know it because light would no longer move and our brains would no longer function.
Shangri-La is a myth, of course[1], and the timelessness is just poetic liscense to connote a place where there are no worries, no deadlines and hence, no need to know what time it is. As for people not growing older, a relaxed, healthy lifestyle would increase the average lifespan and that, coupled with the fact that many causcasians have difficulty estimating Asian people’s ages might have influenced Hilton’s tale.
