Planned Parenthood is a good organization. It does good things. It serves the greater good of society. That said, the actions of the nurse in the video are loathesome. She needs to have some sort of censure or consequence for her actions.
The story of the “girl” itself is irrelevant. It is not for the nurse to determine the “real” age of the patient. She should follow the policy and practice as set down by the organization as a whole based on the information she receives. If she doesn’t believe the girl’s story at all, dont treat her or bring in another employee or supervisor don’t go off on your own and offer illegal advice that wil, at the very least, by a public relations nightmare to Planned Parenthood and give ammunition to Pro-Life wingnuts across the country. I don’t believe her actions are indicative of Planed Parenthood’s polcies.
Trying to equivocate, explain away or twist the actions of the nurse is bullshit. Regardles of the reality or no-reality of the “girl’s” story, there are procedures to follow. If the nurse is suspicious, she meeded to get a supervisor. The nurse was wrong. End of story.
YA know it’s perfectly ok to say something was wrong without completely being a traitor to your cause.
I’m going to ignore this point for a moment because of the larger issue at stake, I’ll come back to it in a moment.
Here’s the problem. This so called “girl” engaged the time and services of this nurse in a political game of gotcha. If she, the nurse I mean, had followed your script, the “girl” would have then wasted the time and services of additonal PP personelle and then what, maybe vauable police time and resources to investigate a non crime, or more likely to track down the “girl” if she bolted. In the mean time the wingnuts get to claim victory no matter which way it went down by either wasting PP time and resources or manufacturing outrage. I hope PP tracks down the group resposible and sues them out of existence.
Back to this point, I have no idea what PP procedure or the state law in this case is, however, since the group responsible isn’t the police or some other agent of the state, my position on her actions bases on what we do know is a big “yawn”.
I don’t fault you for this assertion, since there are a zillion websites that repeat it.
But it’s not true – it arises from assuming that a civil law, Napoleonic system like the Vatican’s (derived from Italy) works the same as our common-law system with respect to precedent.
What makes you think the Duggars can afford those children now and will always be able to? And why is that the only concern you have? Apparently you ignore all the signs of overpopulation, so how about whether or not those kids have had a decent upbringing? What are the girls in that family learning about choices?
Typical. You are all worried about fetus potential, but wish to go about getting folks who are already here to kill themselves. And simply because they don’t agree with you.
A person never being brought into existence is a different matter entirely than a currently existing person killing themselves. Ipso facto, your argument here is fucking retarded.
I’m not at all well versed on the issue of parental notification, but is there a distinction in the debate between parental nitification and parental consent to abortion?
Because this video scares me with regard to naive 13 year olds
getting unfettered counseling from strangers while at the same time I feel no parent should be allowed to force a child to have a baby.
The problem with the video is that is does not show a full conversation. We get to see 5 min of nearly a 20 min conversation(as measured by their own time stamp). It is easy to pick sound bites out the make the other person look bad when you have sole editing control. Maybe during that part that we don’t see the “girl” is about to bolt and in a hysterical fit when she is told that the nurse will have to call the cops. I would think it is better to calm the girl down and get her the medical attention she needs than to have her leave, never seek pre-natal care and toss her still born baby in a garbage can while she bleeds to death. We won’t ever know because there are large parts if this conversion cut out.
Maybe that is what happened maybe it isn’t. Basically, never trust anyone with an agenda and the bigger the agenda the bigger the lies and manipulation.
Sure, sue the fuck outta them, but follow fucking procedure, first. If you gotta sue for lost time and wages, go for it, but follow fucking process. This OK Corral, shoot-from-the-hip and do your own thing cuz you have “firm grasp on the situation” is exactly why good organizations doing controversial (Well, in this case, controversial to whack jobs; common sense to most.) things get fucked. I’m pretty sure Planned Parenthood’s procedure is not “If you don’t believe the patient, go with your gut and offer some wild ass off beat illegal process taht will give the fucktards at the Christian Coalition some RO.” This is a bit like having a procedure taht allows EMT’s to diagnose a heart attack as indigestion.
So because the person wasnt a law enforcement official, the nurses actions were ok and justified… or at the very least “Meh, whatever’.”? Seriously? Nurses putting a good organization like Planned Parenthood at risk, finanically, legally, or public relations-wise, because they don’t follow process is "Yawn.’? Good lord.
But apparently we don’t know if the nurse did any of this. I didn’t watch the video as I am on dial up and just don’t tend to do that, but another poster said that it is a cut and paste job from the original 20 minutes.
And again, people what part of THE NURSE IN QUESTION WAS SUSPENDED do you not understand?
This does NOT reflect on Planned Parenthood as a whole. Or hell, if the video WAS longer, maybe her point was, “I don’t want to know that NOW. Let’s get everything else straightened up first, yada yada yada.”
<mod mode> In your FIRST POST, you admit that the information in your title is inaccurate. This sort of inflammatory posting is trolling. DON’T do it again.</mod mode>
I find it very interesting that Youtube has banned the makers of this video, Live Action Films. Upon looking at their website, it seems that LAF consists of a bunch of highschoolers with a Cause and too much time on their hands.
There exist groups who profess Christianity as a political tool to enforce their version of morality on the rest of us; I have no problem labeling them in such a way that makes my feelings known. YMMOV.
Yes, that’s precisely my position. As I said I don’t know what the particular policy or law saw in this case. However, since the makes of this video started from a position of dishonesty that makes me view everything they say including their position of the law or policy in question suspect. Something I wouldn’t have to presume had it been a sting by a regulatory or investigative agency.
If the Christian worldview is correct, and nonbelivers are sent to hell, wouldn’t it be better, all things considered, for fetuses to be aborted so they’ll go straight to heaven instead of growing up to be infidels and ending up in hell for all eternity?
Now, I’m personally not jumping to any conclusions - there could be any of numerous things going on, anything from training not getting through to underlings to an unwritten agenda being acted upon. But frankly any of these things reflect to some degree on Planned Parenthood, and that really can’t be avoided.
For every one shocking video produced, there could be a thousand uneventful videos where the workers do the right thing. But of course, the pro-life outrage manufacturers aren’t going to show them.
Uh huh. I seem to recall an expose of Food Lion done by ABC News - a few incidents of improper food handling (some of which might have been done by the undercover reporters themselves) were caught on camera and aired. Many examples of employees acting exactly as they should were captured on videotape but never aired.
Food Lion tried to sue and while they initially won, the verdict was later overturned. Diane Sawyer’s bio sheet on the ABC News site proudly trumpets her work on this story.
So like I said, this reflects on Planned Parenthood - just like the work ABC did reflected upon Food Lion. Their stock fell, their expansion plans were interrupted, and they pulled out of several markets after that story.
In this case, though, PP did NOT sue-they took care of it. FL sued. BTW, a cite is not, “Well, I saw some stuff on the news.” You know that doesn’t fly around here-especially if it’s a thread from over a year ago.
Look, I’m not saying Planned Parenthood is God’s Mission On Earth. But nor are they Satan’s Own. They do a lot of good.
