Planning on losing weight? This might be an option.

Here’s an option that might help keep you motivated. HealthyWage offers several weight loss challenges which pay you to lose weight, one of which costs nothing. The site seems to be legit, has been around for a couple years, has been featured in Time, New York Times, and other media. There’s a free challenge where if you go from a BMI of over 30 to below 25 in a year, you will be paid $100. There are some pay-to-play options: you can pay $150, lose 10% of your weight in 6 months, and win $300, or pay $300 and win $1000 for the 30->under 25 BMI in a year. There is a team option, too. Your first and last weigh-in has to be verified at a doctor’s office, gym, or by video according to their instructions. You must weigh in on your own weekly and record it on the website weekly. If you skip a week, you get a strike; after 3 strikes you’re disqualified. There are some unusual clauses in the terms and conditions about not posting disparaging things about them, which should be read carefully. For the most part, the challenges seem very straightforward and easy to follow.

Might be worth checking out at least for the free option if losing weight is something you are planning on doing anyway. I’ve seen health clubs offer these pay-to-lose-the-most-weight challenges and people seem to like it. Enough people don’t succeed that the company can stay profitable, so it’s definitely a gamble to do the pay-to-play options.
