Are you thinking of Zagnut? They are awesome and kick Butterfingers’ ass.
Not Zagnut or Marathon. My vague memory is that it was like a Butterfinger in the sense that it was really crumbly when you tried to eat it. I can’t remember whether it was chocolate coated or not. I want to say it came in packaging as long as a Charleston Chew, but I don’t completely trust my memory.
Oh, this is going to bug me now. I’m gonna have to see if they have it at the local Walgreen’s, where I remember last seeing it, though I can’t remember seeing it anywhere else around here.
I’ve never had either one!
I figured it out. The bar I was thinking of is Chick-O-Stick. I bought one just to check my memory, and, yes, it basically tastes like a Butterfinger without the chocolate. No sign of Munch or Planters Peanut Crunch at the Walgreen’s, though.
Add me to the “never heard of those, just Payday” list.
Yeah, in the last few days I tried Target, Walgreen’s, and three local/regional grocery stores (Jewel, Pete’s Market, Shop and Save), and none of them have either. I wonder if this is just random gas station candy here in Illinois. I’m tempted to ask on Facebook where I can find one of these bars in Chicago, just so I can see what they’re like.
Success for Planter’s Peanut Bar! Finally found one at a BP after checking out a couple gas stations. Verdict? I like it, but I need to find the elusive Munch to compare.
I’m winning!
I can’t answer. I’ve never heard of Munch. I love Planters, Peanut Brittle, Payday, Baby Ruth, Snickers…
I like me some peanuts.
Just wanted to update this. Since this thread I’ve been looking for the elusive Munch bar. I still can’t find it. Every gas station or grocery or drug store in Chicago and the suburbs I’ve visited, on my car trip to KC and back, in Harrisburg, PA, and its environs… I’ve been coming up empty. It is driving me crazy. Today I’m off to Savannah and Hilton Head. I hope today is the day I finally find it. Is there a region of the US where it’s popular?
@pkbites Finally!!! After more than five years, I’ve found a Munch bar! I was at a Binny’s (liquor store) here in Chicago buying some gifts for family and there it was, the holy grail, right in front of the check-out counter. I immediately thought of this thread. I’ve been looking for the damned thing for ages.
I enjoyed it quite a bit!
He likes it so much he purchased the company (decades ago)!
Congratulations, but after 5 years you’re still avoiding the question
Do you prefer that or the Planters peanut brittle bar?
–G?
Ya know, I was thinking that, but now I have to go back and find a Planters bar to compare, because I don’t remember. Hopefully the gas station I bought it at (I remember which one it is) still has it.
They’re good.
But now it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen a Planters bar anywhere.
Hmm. It’s kind of like not seeing Clark Kent and Superman at the same time. I wonder…!
Dammit. Now I’m on a hunt for a Planter’s Bar to compare. The gas station I got mine at five years ago didn’t have it, and none of the grocery stores I’ve visited in the past few days have. Don’t tell me it’s going to be another five years before I find it in the wild. I don’t even see it on Amazon. I type in “Planters Bar” and the first hit I get is a Munch bar. Is the universe mocking me?
Near as I can tell, Planters no longer makes the Peanut Bar; Lance makes them now instead.
