Planter's Peanut Bar or Munch?

Which peanut-based confection do you prefer?

Geee, I was just thinking about Planter’s Peanut Bars this morning. I haven’t had one in like, twenty years.

Huh. I’ve never even heard of these. I’ll have to keep an eye out next time. Are they like Paydays?

How on Earth are you in Chicago and never heard of Munch or a Planters Peanut Bar? I’ve seen them all over the U.S. going back at least to the early 70’s.

They are not like Payday (except, of course, for the peanuts). They are more like (but not identical to) peanut brittle.
ETA: Oh, and as to the OP, they’re both equally good as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t know. I literally have never seen either of these products. Are they in the candy bar aisle?

ETA: I’ll check the grocery stores later, but I just checked out the Target website, and neither Munch nor the Planter’s bar show up for me. Payday, however, does, as well as a host of other candy bars.

Yep. Munch came out in 1970 and was originally called Snickers Peanut Munch.
I just had one about a month ago that I bought out of a vending machine.

I’m from New York (state) and I can’t say that I’ve heard of either of them as well. I have heard of (and like) both the Payday bar and peanut brittle (and know that they’re different).

For the last 15 years when I hear the word ‘Munch’ I only think of Richard Bellzer!

One of these days you guys will be in a gas station or something and see either one (or both) on the candy bar rack and say “well I’ll be damned”.

FWIW, Planter’s Peanut Bars are something I saw regularly in the middle and southern parts of Indiana, but never saw in northern Indiana or Illinois.

I bought some beer at a liquor store in Des Plaines back in December and bought a Planters Peanut Bar also. Went well with a cold Drewrys.

OK, don’t know what a Drewry’s is, either, but I assume some kind of beer.

I have no doubt that one day I will come across one of these. But I haven’t seen either of these around here in my 39 years yet. I do still discover new candy bars I haven’t heard of from time to time. Like there’s this one in Northwest Indiana–IIRC, it was a long bar, something like a Butterfinger, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called. I did see it again in Illinois, at a Walgreens, but I’m blanking on its name. I tend to buy candy bars I’ve never seen before. The Planter’s bar I could see just fading in the background and me not noticing, but I’m sure I’d notice something called “Munch.”

Could you tell the difference, for real and for true? Don’t think I could.

I always found Planter’s Peanut Bar too dry.

It is.

They just started making it again about 2 years ago and it just recently came to the Flatlands. So it’s no sin you never heard of it.

They just started using another contract brewer for it and it is not anywhere near as good as when I first rated it. A shame.

Ah, I had a sneaking suspicion it sounded vaguely familiar! I was in that thread.

I think there’s a substantial difference. The Planter’s bar is almost all peanuts, with barely enough candy to hold it together. The Munch bar has a higher candy/peanut ratio, and the candy itself has more butter-toffee flavor than the sugary stuff in the Planter’s bar. I like Planter’s for its heavier peanut concentration and Munch for its tastier candy. So, like pkbites, I’m torn between the two. I put up the poll to see how many Dopers were familiar enough with both bars to have an opinion.

Payday for candy-bar styled peanut treat. For brittle I like more the small closet/specialty places like Wally’s Nut House.

I like the South Beach Diet whipped peanut butter bars, but back before my weight loss journey? Peanut Brittle definitely.

Nothing better than See’s peanut brittle! And Warren Buffet agrees with me.:stuck_out_tongue:

Marathon maybe? Not really like a Butterfinger but notable because it is longer than most.

I also have never had either of the ones in the OP.
