Playing embedded mp3 files in firefox

For a class I’m taking I need to be able to play mp3 files on the class website. When I go to the website with IE, I can play the files in the browser with quicktime. It shows a scroll bar thing with a “play,” “stop,” “fast forward,” etc. With Firefox I see a rectangle with a message saying I need additional plugins to play media. When I click on it it says I should install Quicktime, which I have already done. Quicktime works fine with video files, but for some reason it is not associated with audio files. When I view plugin information under tools>options>downloads no plugin is associated with embedded mp3 files. Any idea how to fix this?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime?

Yes, it didn’t seem to change anything.

Have you tried changing the file association for MP3s?

Tools>Options>Downloads>MP3

You can tell Firefox what program to use to play MP3s.

MP3s are currently set to be opened by winamp, but this only happens when they are linked to by the website. These MP3s are embedded withing the page. (I would link to the page but it requires a password). I tried changing the file associations just in case, but it didn’t have any effect on playing these files.

Can your browser play the music on this page?

Or do you only have a problem when you have the little media-player widget on the page?

Get the Media Player Connectivity extention. I started using this a couple of weeks ago and it helps tremendously.
