I am having problems when it comes to playing videos embedded in webpages. Firefox always displays the “Additional plugins required” message but doesn’t have any idea which plugin is missing. I don’t think it is a problem with missing codecs as I have Quicktime, WMP and CCCP installed, also, when I download the files manually they play on my computer just fine so I am assuming that is a problem with the settings rather than missing files.
I have the “Enable Java” and “Enable Javascript” boxes ticked in the Firefox settings. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
Have same version (XP) and it is usually the video player having priority.
BTW. Enabling Java/Javascript globally can cause unwanted consequences. I enable only such sites as are trusted. All others on temporary basis only. Some URL’s have video that runs regardless of local conditions.
Mozilla has an Add-on for Firefox and other browsers that lets you disable Java, JavaScript, and other executables individually at any site you visit. It’s called NoScript.
What do you mean by this? WMP has priority for all the files it can play and Quicktime and RealPlayer have associations with the other file types.
I know it isn’t a problem with flash because all flash websites work fine and videos that are flash objects play fine as well, it’s everything else that refuses to play.
You don’t get the “Install Missing Plugins…” button on the banner?
I have the same problem with some sites and FF always wants me to manually install Apple Quicktime, which I have numerous times!
Here’s a page that produces the error for me (it’s a missing WMP player) in FF, but not in IE.
Post some links to pages that are giving you the “Additional plugins required” message.
If we all get the “APR” message, my guess is that it’s not FF, it’s the way the page was written.
