PlayStation 2 supported file formats?

I’m considering selling a PS2 to a trade-in shop but I also know that it’s still quite a simple but useful gaming console and also considering whether I should just keep it for future use.

Don’t know exactly all the specs, but I do believe that it can play Videos and Music as well as PS2/PS1 Games. The thing I’m not sure is whether it can play burned audio CDs and DVDs?

Can any tech dopers confirm whether it could support a burned CD with .mp3 files?

Let’s move this to the Game Room.

Emulation for PS1 and PS2 games is very good now a days. You can literally put in a PS1/PS2 disc into a PC and play most games out there. CPU is the main consideration for those old emulators too, so it’s easy to run them in any laptop that isn’t notebook level.

And since you’re considering selling it, you’re probably not going to be revisiting those old games very frequently anyway. I’m guessing you’re trading it in towards a new console? That would probably be worth it over keeping it, IMHO.

As to your question, IIRC, I remember being able to play burned music (standard wav audio format) CD’s on my PS2 as well as DVD’s, but it hard a hard time with certain DVD brand discs. Basically any cheapo DVD player now a days is likely to do a better job than a PS2.
