Playstation 3 Game Recommendations

My husband and I got a PS3 yesterday. We won’t be getting each other Christmas presents for a long time to pay for it, too. We’re playing Folklore, which is soooooo beautiful and fun hack and slash with lots of talking. I like it.

We’re considering getting Assassin’s Creed, because I love free roaming games (Spiderman 2 for the PS2 was AMAZING) but I don’t really like stealth, though I haven’t really played a stealth game since Syphon Filter on the PS1.

We want a good co-op or two player game. We loved Cel Damage for the X-Box (simple to play, hard to get really good at and make the other person frustrated), or a game that is fun to watch for the other person who isn’t playing.

Games we like: Final Fantasy (especially X and XII), Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari, Ratchet and Clank (already borrowing the PS3 one from a friend), God of War, Onimusha 2. I love puzzle games (Peggle, Portal, Flow, Tetris, Dr. Mario), point and click adventure games (Dreamfall, all the old LucasArts games), anything with a good sense of humor (Sam and Max, Grim Fandango and the like), platformers (Rayman, Voodoo Vince, Psychonauts etc.

We’re definitely getting Lego Indiana Jones when it comes out. We played both Lego Star Wars Games so buying them for the PS3 seems silly.

Neither of us like traditional first person shooters, so Call of Duty is out, but something more quirky like Bioshock would work.

Anyone played the Simpsons Game? Looks really beautiful, but I’ve heard co-op can be frustrating when you need special skills of one character to advance through the areas and the other character just sits there. Plus it’s supposed to be really funny. What about Spiderman 3? The review I read said it’s like the other games, but gave it a lower score because there wasn’t anything new. But is it fun?

Recs for upcoming or even rumored games are good too.

Thanks!

Spiderman 3 stinks. It’s not as good as Spiderman 2. Owned it and traded it right away.

Simpsons game looks good and is funny but the camera is TERRIBLE. Terrible enough for me to stop playing it within an hour of booting it up. This was only the demo though so I suppose it could be better on release but probably not.

Ninja Gaiden is VERY good, but VERY hard and is the only game I still own on PS3.

Motorstorm is very cool. I really liked that one but I stink at driving games so I didn’t buy it.

I bought MLB 2K8 for PS3 and took it back 30min later to get the 360 version because the frame rate was so bad on the PS3 one. I don’t mean bad as in the graphics didn’t look as good as 360 bad. I mean bad as in so bad it made it harder to play the game bad.

If you like God of War that game Heavenly Sword is supposed to be a good GoW clone, haven’t played it though.

All in all there really aren’t any games I can really recommend on PS3 right now. Every game that is on both systems (360 PS3) is better on 360 (I’m not a fan boy either, I own both and want them both to succeed) so I don’t buy them on PS3 anymore. The only game I still own on PS3 is Ninja Gaiden, but it’s REALLY hard.

Right now I’m playing Mass Effect and Bioshock on 360 so I’m kind of tuned out on PS3.

The Simpsons’ game is one of the funniest I’ve ever played, and it almost makes up for the subpar gameplay. I didn’t think co-op was that bad, but it’s not particular great either. It would make a great rental.

HOwever, I would highly siggest you take a look at Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, a half-action, half-adventure game made by the guys who made Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter. I’ve only played a couple levels, but I’ve really enjoyed it so far, and it looks amazing (plus it got great reviews).

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. It’s supposed to be good. I’ll have to rent it.
