I watched the movie Pleasantville the other night and remember that Reese Witherspoon said something about having to wear 3 or 5 pounds of underwear. Did folks really wear that much underwear back then? I hate to sound dumb, but why so much? Did they wear steel plate bras back then or what?
It’s called hyperbole. She was exaggerating. She just meant the underwear was heavier than what she wore in the '90s. Either the bra manufacturers or public morality hadn’t gotten around to sheer fabrics yet. Hell, for all I know, they had the poor thing in a girdle (a little young for it, though).
