One of my jobs (catering) sends me job postings via e-mail. It’s a large company, and the staffing is coordinated by one woman. She sent out a mass e-mail today that involved both politics and religion.
A sampling:
There was more (much more - over 400k), plus some pix that I didn’t receive. It originated in a marine troop in Iraq.
At the very least it is unethical (IMHO), and I find myself somewhat offended. The only correspondence that they should ever send me is that which is work related.
I am unclear as to whether your are an employee of, or a sub-contractor to, this company. If you are the former, I would check the company’s policy regarding non-work related use of the email system – and then send a reminder of this policy to the individual in question. If you are a sub-contractor (or an employee working for a company without any explicit policy) I would recommend a polite email requesting that your email address be removed from any further inspirational group mail-outs (this also works for group mail-outs of so-called humorous material). Just remember to be polite about it, state that you are not interested in receiving such material.
If it continues (and your company has an appropriate use email policy) report her posterior to her superiors… if such a policy doesn’t exist, I would suggest water-bombs filled with noxious fluids.
And remember, however well intentioned, telling someone you are praying for them is one of the most arrogant things a human being can do.
The problem here is not politics or religion, but a person who doesn’t get out much. Just ignore them, as they aren’t ever going to catch on that other people think differently than their immediate family.
Unless that person shares your beliefs, and said belief encourages intercession through prayer…which, I believe, most branches of Protestant Christianity do.
Her cluelessness was well-intentioned. Boorish, but well-intentioned. Tell her you don’t like it, but don’t be a dick about it.
Think of it this way: in her own little way, all she was really trying to do was say, “Relax. Don’t worry about small things you can’t change.”
I doubt she’d even understand if you brought the Wrath of the Regulations down on her head.
I am a part time employee - I am a server/bartender for a catering company. I probably work 2 or 3 times a week for them.
I’m definitely choosing to ignore this missive. Except, of course, to use it as fodder for jokes.
Yes, I realize that I’ve set myself up for some proper ranking (what with my screen name and all). It’s kind of funny, too, that an Ogre would be such an expert of social grace and etiquette.
I can understand your reluctance to say anything since they hire you for jobs. Is the person who sends you the emails the owner of the company? If the person who did that were my employee, I would want to know about it. She or he may also be sending these inappropriate emails to customers.

No. The owner is a chef, Joachim Splichal. The company was at one time owned by Restaurant Associates (a monolith in catering).
You know,
This kind of shit is what really pisses me off about America, and probably one of the reasons that I think I’ll never be able to live there permenantly. Really, its fucking sick. One of the thing I love about Germany is that they don’t buy into this sappy kind of shit. The fact that its religious doesn’t bother me so much, actually, although i disagree with such kind of solicitation. But the “protecting your freedom” kind of shit reallly pisses me off. Its just the kind of shit created by people who run a conservative blog who cast down righteous fury on the doubters. Maybe instead of “protecting your freedom” it said, “looking out for their asses” or maybe “Getting their asses blown up” I’ll have a little sympathy. But I got no sympathy when people try to sap it up into something like that. If they think they are protecting our freedom, they are misguided, and if they don’t they wouldn’t agree.
When will American turn normal… :smack:
