Political Propaganda in the Workplace!

My boss, who I generally like and respect, just forwarded this nasty email to our whole department comparing Bush and Kerry and showing how holy and Christian Bush is and how liberal and anti-Christian and gay-loving Kerry is. I know for a fact that I am not the only liberal Democrat in our department (several people are actually – gasp! – Christian Kerry supporters). The problem is, the self-righteous among us are now printing out this email and acting like it’s sooo great. I already emailed our supervisor and told her that emails like that can be construed as political and religious harrassment, but what else can I do?

I know I’ve lists of reasons why Christians can and should vote Democrat (any anything other than Republican, because we all know how much Jesus despised the poor and thought they shouldn’t have healthcare). Anybody know where I can find one of those?

Mostly I’m just pissed off.

I’ve been considering illustrating all the commandments this administration has broken (“Thou Shalt Not Kill” with pictures from the Shock and Awe bombings, “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor” with official quotes about Saddam possessing WMDs, etc.) but A) I have other projects I’m working on and B) I don’t personally know anyone who’s pushing for Bush solely on religious grounds, so I wouldn’t really have an audience for it. You’re welcome to the idea though, if you think it’s a good one.

Yeah piss off your boss in an at will state. If he is reasonable then tell him it is making you uncomfortable. If he is unreasonable then keep your mouth shut and keep collecting your paycheck. Harsh advice for a bad situation. Thats why I wouldn’t think of discussing politics at work except in general terms.

I don’t know why my post disappeared. If it comes back I apologize for the double.

I let myself cool off for awhile, then I emailed her a very reasonable explanation of why I felt it wasn’t appropriate. She was really apologetic and wound up emailing an apology to the whole department. I feel better now. I was pretty taken aback when she sent the original email because she didn’t seem like the sort of person who would normally go for that sort of thing. It looks like she just wasn’t thinking about anything at all when she sent it. It’s been a long week for us here.
