Please explain Lauren Boebert

Matthew 5: 31-32
31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’
32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."

(To be clear, Protestant religions since Henry VIII found his marriage inconvenient have decided not to think about these verses, and I personally am a big fan of liberal divorce laws. But Someone did indeed have something to say about divorce, and it’s more than He said about abortion or homosexuality, if you’re a big proponent of doing things “because Jesus said so”.)

I wish I could remember the source, but I remember reading an interview where someone asks Jenna Jameson what advice she’d give to young women interested in breaking into the porn business. Since I know most people who post here are dedicated to intellectual pursuits rather the pruient desire, by the mid 1990s, Jameson was one of the biggest porn actresses in the business. But from what I can recall about her advice, it went as follows:

  1. Don’t be afraid to say no. If there’s a specific act you don’t want to do it’s okay to say no.
  2. You don’t have to be particularly good looking. No matter how you look, somebody wants to see you naked.
  3. Choose your actor name carefully. Don’t go for something crass you’ll end up regretting later.
  4. If you go into porn you need to realize it will follow you for the rest of your life.

We could argue all day whether it’s fair, but once you go into porn there’s a good chance you’re never going to walk away from it free and clear.

ATF Form 4473 (which is required in all fifty states when you buy a gun) asks if you are using marijuana.

See, I’ve been wondering about this ever since I heard about this Beetlejuice incident and the Hunter Biden indictment on the same day. Certainly the GOP would want the same law to apply to one of their own, right? Right?

Is it anything more than speculation that she was vaping something with THC in it?

Nah! It’s common sense that relatives of elected officials must be held to higher standards than the officials themselves. Although this is subject to change without notice. /s

I think we can judge her the same way she would have judged an LGBTQ couple sitting next to her (including her own definition of adultery). Now, maybe she would have been ‘meh, I’m not on the clock.’ But we only have how she’s presented herself to know.

When I worked for the federal government, we were subject to random drugs tests, which seemed to occur more “randomly” if we had traveled out of the country, or to states where marijuana was legal.

Indeed, I don’t personally think having worked in the sex industry disqualifies Gibson from politics per se, it’s her lack of a basic understanding of contemporary American politics 101 and not thinking that it would come back to haunt her that disqualifies her. In other words, the fact that she is a moron disqualifies her. This is something she did publicly and left a record of; it’s not something like cocaine use in college that she could deny having done. I don’t even fault her and her attorney for trying to go on the attack and making the ridiculous accusation of it being revenge porn, her campaign is toast and there’s not much else she could try doing. She could deny having done it even though there is video evidence of it, but it would take a special kind of moron to try to do that… oh yeah, this is a Boebert thread. Never mind.

She’s divorcing him so that doesn’t even apply. Taking the verses literally just doesn’t work, not with the modern US legal system.

Honestly, I have never heard of someone being called an adulterer because the formality of the paperwork hasn’t finished completely, in a religious sense or otherwise.

As I said, if you want to attack her morals or call her a hypocrite that’s probably the weakest way to do it. There’s a whole plethora of options in her case.

Gibson had a contested primary, for a very competitive seat that could give Republicans and Glenn Youngkin unified control of Virginia state government. Regardless of whether you or I find this conduct relevant to her ability to serve in the Legislature, she fucked over her party by concealing it.

In the 1960s, when the Yippies fucked in public, it was to shock the national consciousness against the war. But this! This has no higher purpose, it’s just self-centered trashy sleaze.

Actually, most of Jesus’ teachings are very subversive to the way we run the world and the USA. But in this case, the quote is about the Southern Baptists finding themselves in a crisis. And a very different crisis than that of the world.

I have, plenty of times. In fact, the usual assumption is that they must’ve already been cheating if they couldn’t wait until the divorce was final. Heck, if you don’t have the normal mourning period after a divorce, that is assumed.

She is certainly a reviler. Not to mention greed, And what she did in the audience could be considered sexual immorality. But it is adultery.

Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.

Either you follow the New testament, or you do not.

Sure. But in the US Legal system, being gay or trans or a TV is all legal. That doesnt stop her from trying to make that illegal.

I just gave you some verses. They are just as valid as: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

So if gay sex is a sin, then she is an adulterer.
