I’m trying to help someone on another forum. Here’s his post; I’m hoping we can come up with something. It’s not ringing bells for me.
Fellow triviots, I am trying to remember a series of spy/action thrillers that I read when I was stationed in England (66-68). I have no idea who the author was, or the name of the lead character, or the book titles. Here’s the plot in a nutshell.
The lead character is introduced first, a guy who has some sort of terminal illness, with 6 months or so to live. Enter a super secret (aren’t they all?) government agency. This agency has developed a way to create anatomically correct and functional human bodies, maybe cloned, I don’t remember. The catch is (there’s always a catch, right?) that the brains of these created bodies are totally blank, making the bodies useless. The agency solved the problem by also coming up with a way to transfer brain waves/impulses (whatever) from a living human body into one of the created bodies. Ah!, but there’s another catch! Two catches actually. The original body (the transferer) dies, and the brain transfer will only last for three months, when the created body will also die. So the brain stuff has to be transferred form one clone to another within 3 months to keep the ‘original’ brain going. Anyway, this secret agency offers our hero the chance to keep his brain living through this brain transfer process if he agrees to be a secret agent for them. Since he only has 6 months to live anyway our hero agrees, resulting in a series of adventures.
Okay, so it was more like a turtle shell synopsis and not a nut shell, sorry for being long winded. Anyway, if anyone remembers anything about this series of books (3 or 4, maybe more) I would appreciate the help. Even the character’s name would be a big help, that would give me a starting point for searching.
