please help identify old winged horse show

I’ve been asking around about this for a while now and still haven’t found the answer. It’s been driving me crazy so I thought I’d give it a shot here.

I can’t remember if it was a TV series or a movie. I saw it on TV circa 1978-1982. The main characters were a boy who was, I’d guess, 8-12 years old (I was a kid, so I really can’t remember all the details), and a man who was probably 50-60 years old. The man was possibly a sheriff. The boy rode the winged horse but for what purpose I can’t remember (he helped the older man fight crime?) and they became good friends. I don’t remember much else, just faint little details that probably aren’t helpful.

I’ve used google and IMDB to try and find it, but no luck. Does this sound even a bit familiar to anyone?

I remember that, too. It had Slim Pickens in it. I think it was a tv movie…

I just now looked it up (via Slim Pickens’ page) on IMDB: The Winged Colt

It was an ABC Weekend Special.
