PLEASE help me disable the power cord beep on my Acer laptop

I own an Acer Aspire 5740-6491 laptop, and whenever the power cord is plugged or unplugged, it makes a loud beeping sound. This wouldn’t be that bad, but I use the computer on the bed a lot. Whenever I step on the cord or jostle the computer slightly, the cord becomes just a little bit unplugged and lets out that damn annoying beep. This happens frequently enough that I’m considering keeping my computer muted at all times to avoid it giving me a headache. It drives me up the wall and I’d really like to disable it permanently. I checked out a computer message board and one of the posters said

Only problem is that I couldn’t find the “Beep” under “Non-Plug and Play Drivers”. Please tell me how to turn off this beep without having to mute my computer constantly.

It might be a BIOS setting. Try hitting <Delete> or <Escape> or <Control-Alt-Escape> or whatever when the computer is booting up. If you start seeing references to Windows, you missed it and must try again.

Once in the BIOS settings, look for “warnings” or “alerts” or something that will let you disable system sounds. I’ll boot up my own Acer Aspire to get more info.

I don’t have my Acer in front of me just now so this is an estimate.

In Control Panel, Power Management you should be able to bring up an advanced power management application. I think it is one of those Acer jobbies. There should be settings and check boxes for different actions like notifications and lid closing, etc.

There’s an icon that says “Power Options”, and I was able to find the advanced power settings. I couldn’t find anything to disable the sound, though.

I’ve tried this a dozen times and can’t catch it in time. I will keep trying to, though.

Also try F2 or F12.
