It’s my first night at Gen Con. I settle down to bed after having been up since 3 a.m. to catch a plane, so I’m pretty much a zombie at this point. I turn on the TV to find something to go to sleep to, and happen upon this movie that looks vaguely interesting so I leave it on. I think I only lasted about 10 minutes into it initially, and then saw a couple of small snippets later. I have no way to look up what it was, and I don’t remember what channel it was on. This would have been around 11:30-midnight, so I don’t think it was a new movie. It might have been CBS, but not sure.
I call upon the astonishing powers of the Dope to satisfy my curiosity! Here’s what I remember:
-
When I tuned in, four little girls were discussing something mysterious. They go to one of their grandmothers to ask her about it (“What happened to so-and-so and her son all those years ago?” Grandma won’t tell them–she says they don’t need to know and it was horrible. Grandma, by the way, seems a bit dotty–she gives them something to drink that none of them like, and then shoos them out because she has to go play bingo.)
-
The cars place the “little girl” portion of the movie sometime in the '60s.
-
The girls then sneak into an attic and look through stuff until they find a newspaper clipping describing a murder–the boy and his mom were shot to death. One girl has a crying fit but I was drifting in and out at that point so I don’t remember why.
-
The girls go to the graveyard at night and try to have a seance to contact the boy. A scary guy shows up, but it’s only the groundskeeper. He tells them that the boy’s gravestone was cracked because he backed into it with his tractor.
[I went to sleep at this point]
When I woke up later, four women (who I think were the girls, all grown up) were gathered around a bed where one of them was having a baby. They encourage her and eventually it’s born. It’s a girl. There’s nothing overly dramatic or frightening about this scene–just a standard ‘having a baby’ scene. They were in a private home, though, not a hospital.
That’s all I remember.
Anybody? Thanks in advance!
(BTW, I probably won’t reply much today as I’m heading out for a day at the con. But I’ll be checking in! )
