Okay, I’ve never posted this sort of query before, but I am at a lost. Years ago, I lived about five hours away from my girlfriend (now my wife). On the weekends, I would drive to see her, listening to FM radio the whole way. There was a song that was popular at the time that I have been trying to remember, but I just can’t quite get it in my head. It’s been bugging me for months. I hope that someone here can help me.
So, the only lyric I can remember clearly is “Texas. They’ve got big, long roads down there.” It spoke to me because I was usually all alone in the middle of the night on a big, long highway in Texas headed to my lady love. The words were spoken/sung by a low-pitched male voice. This would have been during the 1992-93 school year. I was listening to adult contemporary or Top 40 radio stations in the Rio Grande Valley, Kingsville, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and Austin areas on my journey. I thought the song was by David & David or David Baerwald by himself, but searching through their oeuvre has been fruitless.
I’ve seen y’all come up with really obscure music and literature for other folks. Anyone out there know what song I’m looking for?
