Please help me identify this story

I read a book somewhere between 6th and 8th grades that involved some kids (2? A boy and a girl?) travelling (by rocket?) to a planet very close to the earth. As I recall, the planet was hidden in a dust cloud, and no one else had discovered it. One of their ‘unusual adult-type’ friends turned out to be an alien from this planet, or at least a frequent visitor to it.

That’s all I remember. It’s driving me crazy, because I really liked it at the time! Now I can’t remember a damn thing about it!!

Was it a Mushroom Planet?

The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Eleanor Cameron, perhaps, or another one from that series?

I think that might be it. I had a vague notion that mushrooms were somehow involved. I’ll have to track down a copy at the library and make sure.
