Please help me remember the name of an animated futuristic cop show from the late 80s

Off to Cafe Society.

Ah, Silverhawks. Or, as I always called it, ‘Falling In Space!’

“Police Cops?”

Joe

No kidding. Still what kid couldn’t love this?

Huh. I’ve never seen that before, and yet I feel as though I have.

I always make that mistake!

Ha! I knew the answer as soon as I saw the thread title, and I never even saw the animated show - I collected the comic book, but was aware there was an animated version. It was early in my comic collecting career, which began in 1987. Comic books were still only $0.75 - $1.00, and I was still living with my parents and had cash to burn, so I was collecting almost every title on the shelf at the local comics shop.

Good Lord, that looks awful. Like, Gobots bad.

“Alien galaxies from beyond space”?

Actually, that’s just the American version, which is famously terrible - I only showed it because it’s the version viewers of my generation would be most familiar with. *Battle of the Planets *- AKA *Gatchaman *- is considered one of the classic early amine series.

Heck, even on the main page:

Really? As opposed to 2020 in the distant future? Or maybe they didn’t want it to get mistaken for 2020 BC.

I loved the show, though. I can’t believe they managed to get it onto DVD.

Man, I loved Silverhawks. That clip brought back memories… and showed me exactly how ridiculous those memories were. “Partly metal, partly real” ??? Metal isn’t real?
Wings in space? The Copper Kid: bionic space mime? Fighting evil with the power of guitar music? Sigh…

This is why I love the SDMB, no one I know in real life remembers any of these shows.

C.O.P.S, Silverhawks, and Mask were my favorite shows as a kid.

Anyone remember Galaxy Rangers? I first thought that’s what the OP was remembering.

Here’s some Galaxy Rangersstuff for y’all.

Galaxy Rangers seems familiar, but I don’t know if that is because I watched it or if I sold art from it at one point in time. (I worked at an animation art gallery for a number of years). I DO remember Bravestarrwhich is a similar sort of idea. There is Blackstartoo, but it’s a different thing entirely (and absolutely not to be confused with Blackstar)
