Venom

This English black metal band, a major influence on thrash pioneers Metallica, Slayer and Possessed, as well as the satanic fraternity, was formed in Newcastle Upon Tyne by Cronos (b. Conrad Lant; bass, vocals), Mantas (b. Jeff Dunn; guitar) and Abaddon (b. Tony Bray; drums). Their debut was 1981’s legendary Welcome To Hell, a raw collection of brutal songs filled with dark, satanic imagery. Black Metal was much better in terms of playing and production, and remains Venom’s best album, containing the atmospheric “Buried Alive” amid the more customary speed bursts. At War With Satan, a semi-concept album, and numerous singles followed - BBC Radio 1 DJ Tommy Vance paid ú100 to charity when Mike Read played “Warhead” on his breakfast show for a bet - and Venom played numerous major shows worldwide (club dates were precluded by the nature of Venom’s pyrotechnics, which tended to cause structural damage in enclosed spaces), proudly refusing to be anything but headliners. However, the poor Possessed and a spate of unofficial live and compilation releases hurt the band, and Mantas left as the Eine Kleine Nachtmusik live set emerged.

So, what does the K stand for in “K.525”?

‘K’. is short for ‘K.V.’ which stands for ‘Köchel Verzeichnis’, meaning ‘Köchel catalog’. Köchel is the guy who drew up a numbered list of all of Mozart’s works. Although later on some turned up that weren’t on his list, it is still the most commonly used reference.

I did feel silly whistling into my mike!!!

I was originally going to try to describe the tune with “dums”, as in

dum, dum dum! dum dum dum dum dum!

Obviously, that sucks and wouldn’t work. Then the whistling idea occurred to me. Silly, but effective!

Actually, I think Venom’s Ein Klein Nachtmusik was just the album title. I’m pretty sure they didn’t really play any Mozart.
