This (730K MP3) is the background music from a platform game I’m currently hooked on; I recognise some of the music from other levels as real-world songs, so I’m assuming this one has a name too. Anybody know what it is?
Man for some reason that sounds AWFULLY familiar to me but I might be making things up.
Does the game have any music credits?
Also, when you say “real world” songs do you mean pop tunes or like nursery rhyme/public domain songs?
What’s the name of the game?
Sounds like a variation on Melodies of Life from Final Fantasy IX to me.
The game in question is a little freeware platformer (made with the Game Maker program) called Wally 2 - I don’t think the author has worried himself too much over rights, as the BGM for one of the levels is Penny Lane by the Beatles.
They all sound a lot like midi files - I kind of expected to find a folder full of these, but they are obviously embedded in the executable or something. I have a feeling they may be embedded as wav captures of the midi output or something.
Some of the in-game SFX have been stolen from Lemmings - I suppose it’s possible that this tune was also.
[off-topic]I’m toying with the idea of getting Game Maker - it looks like it is capable of turning out some quite nicely playable (if basic) games; I’ll also take this opportunity to mention another Game Maker game; Seiklus - a hugely enjoyable and playable puzzle platformer (don’t let the simplistic graphics put you off).
It’s a remix of the dance tune in Final Fantasy VIII’s romantic ball, between Squall and Rinoa, but it’s not Melodies of Life as Tengu suggested, but A Waltz to the Moon. You can listen to an excerpt of the original here. (See Disc One, Track 16 – Waltz to the Moon. Requires Realplayer)
Wow! that’s spot on! thanks.
