Please please PLEASE, God, make X-Men 3 be good!

I am actually looking forward to this one and expect it to be pretty good.
I have been looking forward to the Dark Phoenix storyline since part 1, and was really bummed out that they picked Wolverine as the focus.

I also think Brian Singer made a big, big mistake.
Superman is going to flop, I think.
Superman just isn’t a very good comic and much too kiddy.

By the way : they really need to go back to the drawing board with Colossus.
That looked incredibly bad.

Ugh. Terrible

Collosus looked awful. The Fastball special looked awful. The car driving in the distance looked awful. The dialogue was excretable. The acting was atrocious.

Now, the first few points may be due to unfinished special effects. I would certainly hope so. But no amount of computer wizardry can make that acting more acceptable.

Also, the plot sounds terrible. You can make a movie about the Phoenix. You can film Joss Whedon’s first Astonishing story arc. Don’t do both at once.

Superman, OTOH, looks pretty cool. I’m looking forward to that.

I heard a rumor that Brian Singer bailed on X3 because Fox was forcing him to do this script, and he refused to have his name associated with the stink. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Story related earlier in this thread even…

I think that’s only partially true. Singer wanted to do X-men 3 but the head of FOX’s film dept. HATES X-men. Hates it. So they kept pushing up the release date and pushing back the start date. Singer said “Okay, I need more than 6 months to make this movie, can we start filming now?” Fox replies with “Nah… we’ll start filming next year like our schedule says.” Singer then says “If we don’t start filming this now… I am quitting to do Superman at WB.” Fox responds with “It was nice working with you. Bye.”
There’s some other issues that Singer had as well… Jackman’s “houseboy” being brought in as a producer is one that I hear industry types cite a lot.

The thing that bothers me the most is DEATH SPOILER Cyclops dies early in the movie… Cyclops got the shaft in the movies so far so I was hoping he’d get some good stuff in this one especially given the source material… Guess not.

How can any exec hates something that makes THAT much money? It’s practically unamerican.

Agreed that the dialog in that trailer is terrible. “We work as a team!” Yeah, what does she think Colossus throwing Wolverine is? It’s kind of hard to do a Fastball Special solo. And the delivery sucks. And giant robots work fine in a cartoon, but it’s hard to play them seriously in a live-action movie. And then, after the head lands, Wolverine just sort of appears from nowhere… It sure didn’t look like he rode the head down.

But yeah, I’ll probably go see it, too (though probably not opening weekend; I usually wait a few weeks for movies).

Where is there a clip in that link?

You need to download macromedia flashplayer to see it perhaps?

Well, I’m looking forward to more than a single shot of Kitty Pryde dropping through a ceiling (X2) or walking through a door (X1). She’s always been my favorite X-Man. Other than that, I have no real expectations.

Besides, they’re following the comic book convention of killing Jean and bringing her back to life. That story arc alone is good for, what, three more sequels?

one of the new previews I saw highlightsthe younger characters. They each get a money shot then their name pops up on the scream “Colossus” “Iceman” “Rogue” “Pyro” “Kitty Pryde”

And I had to say… “Ohhhhhh, they couldn’t have picked one of her 1,000 code names?”

What are “the trades?”

-FrL-

Hollywood Reporter and Variety are the two magazines that are most commonly referred to as “the trades”.

There are others as well.

Well, her phasing through electronics messes them up pretty good, IIRC, so maybe they’ll Fastball Special her through some Sentinels.

(No, seriously, that’d be awesome. Beast or somebody – Nightcrawler’s not in this one, right? – can catch her on the other side.)

I want to know what you mean by “houseboy”, and I’m not sure I want to know.

Kelsey Grammer would fracture a hip catching her. (Isn’t he a little too old to be an active X-Man? Besides, in one of the earlier movies, Dr. Hank McCoy was interviewed on a TV in the background in one of the scenes. Anyone know who played him then?)
Besides, Petey tosses Kitty into the mega-Sentinel in one of Whedon’s Astounding X-Men issues (instead of Wolverine) so that she can reprogram it from inside. She screws up the electronics of some drones on her way into the thing.
