I look at the Thread titles first, before I even look to see who posted the thread. If it is something that I think I can add to then I post, if not I move on.

Aenea, I’m glad you said that, I wasn’t sure about you. As you found out i’m more of a gentleman than to just do something like whip it out. I mean come on I don’t even know you, and there was no alcohol involved. Anyways you’re cool, but you did almost scare me away.

Some people do hold a grudge (like Esprix), fuck em. Maybe it wasn’t just being ignored, but there were a few times where I was curius for a real answer for a question that was important to me and I got shitty disparaging remarks (I hope this doesn’t sound too marytrish).
Sorry about the phrasing I used (I was up 20 somethin’ hours when I typed that–if you can excuse me). I wish I could go back and edit a few of those sentences.

Silo a lot of my posts were sinking to the bottom after only a few replies. They were, until I threatened to kick a few asses and all of a sudden I get plenty of replies.

Silo: welcome to the club. Pick any poster name out of a hat and pay attention to their posts. You will quickly realize that 90% of the people probably think what you do (I’m being ignored by everybody.) In your case you have the disadvantage of having (courageously) admitted to a checkered past.

Do you really want us to rate the quality of your posts? I think not - and not specifically yours; I don’t think many of us want that in regard to our own posts. But your early beginnings as a, excuse me, but it’s accurate, troll belie some aspects of the troll personality; i.e., wanting some attention. Somebody above phrased it as desiring validation.
Well, pal, I’ll certainly give you credit for cleaning up your act. And, I recognize a little yearning for the validation mentioned. You’ve made some decent posts, and you made a doper meeting - you’re coming along.

I would estimate that I get a response that I see from ~2-3% of my posts. I believe it is not uncommon for people to feel ignored here and that is part of the nature of this medium of exchange. I know many more folk see my responses than ever reply to them. My whole relationship with this board, and the people who comprise it, is more along the lines of growing a plant than having a punching match (partially explains why you rarely see me in the Pit).

Silo, please, you’re fine. Like Falcon, myself, and the vast majority of the dopers who post regularly, you are not a celebrity on the board. This is neither a Silo Fan Club, nor an I-Hate-Silo haven. You’re not inane or boring, and - Pit-talk aside - you don’t felch small rodents. It’s just that you (and I, for that matter) lack the charisma that gets every post answered with glee and enthusiasm.
While Esprix was blunt, he has a very good point. Not everyone here is going to be your friend. Thankfully, they don’t have to be. Your presence here is decided by one factor and one factor alone - you. If you’re not enjoying yourself, why endure it? Go find something that rings your bells. If it’s a mixed bag, favor what makes you happy and forget the stuff that leaves you cold.
This isn’t school where you get grades and progress reports. It’s also not a job where you get performance reviews and raises. If you want feedback, ask around in chat, MPSIMS, or the doper get-togethers. Also, try a little perspective. You’re doing no better or poorer than most other posters.
I know I’ve made several smart-ass comments about you since you became Silo but they weren’t done to be mean. (I know, I know, you’re thinking, “Who is ‘evilbeth’?”)
Seriously, if we were to have a contest for “Most Boring Poster with the Highest Post Count”, I think I would be the logical choice, or at least, second to handy!
Some people on the board get alot of feedback, some don’t. That’s life. I am one of the ones who does not. It used to bother me but I changed my view when I met RTFirefly in person. (Hey, Kim–where are those pictures?!) I always see him in GD and other such “intellectual” forums and threads. I was nervous about meeting him because I felt for sure that he was going to want to discuss controversial GD topics or other things that I usually stay away from on the boards. I was sure he had probably only seen a couple of my posts ever and would think I’m a complete dork.
Well, he actually may think I am a complete dork but when I met him I realized that he had read plenty of my inane posts and that we both read many of the same threads. We actually talked about things! Hell, we even talked about you! (He wasn’t around for Michael Masterson!)
Just because people aren’t posting to the same things you are, doesn’t mean they’re not reading them and sometimes even agreeing with what you say. Some people just don’t like to “me too” a thread.
Rest assured that many people are reading your posts–if only to make sure you don’t slip back into your former self!
