PLEASE READ

This is the appropriate forum in which to post comments and questions you have about new, recent, or classic columns by Cecil Adams. If you have such comments and questions, please add a hyperlink to the column you are discussing. You can find the instructions about how to create links (and bold or italicized text) here:
http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/ubbcode.html

Here is a quick explanation. Note: below where you see a bracket like this { replace it with a [
If I used brackets in my example, it would become a hyperlink right away, and you wouldn’t see the code.
So if you print: {url}www.straightdope.com{/url} (with no spaces between the bracketed code and the url pasted in the middle), and replace the above {} brackets with brackets, you get www.straightdope.com . You get the url you want to highlight by copying it from the line space above the column you are reading, and pasting it in your response with the and tags in the front and back. If this is still not clear, please go to the UBB code page I included above. If you wish to practice this new skill without looking like a dummy (though we all occasionally screw it up), you can go the forum, “About This Message Board” and try it out.
Thanks.
Jill

I can picture Jill slowly, oh so slowly, turning purple, posting almost nonstop to link to the column!
Eventually, she will revert, bashing the glowing box with buttons with a club, yelling at it, “Link, Link! Why don’t they Link?!”
Best of luck in your efforts, Jill. To the top with this one.

If I were beaned with a fastball, fling my limp, lifeless body to first, cause, dammit, I earned it!

You can skip the tags. Just paste the address line into the reply box and UBB does the rest. This was the result of one of the upgrades, I believe.

Thanks, Ursa, and you know what, JJTM, people are getting better about doing this all the time. The reason I posted this reminder is that one guy wrote back to me when I asked for a link, asking why I never posted instructions on how to do it.
