Please, gang, when you are starting a new topic, please post the link to the Mailbag Answer that you are commenting on?
This will help us all stay on the same page, make it clear for everyone.
You post the link by copying the url, and putting it inside brackets-URL-brackets:
{URL}http://www.whatever.the.link.is{/URL}
… except use square brackets [ ] instead of curly brackets { } in the above.
CK, if I may, it’s not necessary to use brackets at all. Simply copy down the link as is and the magic of UBB Code does the rest. For example: www.straightdope.com/ http://cnn.com/
In both examples, I simply wrote the address exactly as you see it. But in the second, it was necessary to include the “http” and “://” to make it work because the address does not include “www.” This rule applies for ANY address that deviates from “www.”
Oh, and let’s not forget that for an address to be automagically transformed into a working link (as jab1 described), it has to have spaces or line breaks immediately in front and behind. Keep that in mind when putting addresses in parentheses or ending a sentence with them. This is not necessary for the {URL} code that Dex gave.
And towards the bottom on the page where you compose a post (where you compost, for short), there’s a link to the page that explains all the UBB codes.
