Please Recommend A Computer Game......

…such as the one I am about to decribe to you: Years ago, I had a game in which I played a spy. I had to sign on to the game by using my social security number (if I ever entered my SSN wrong, the game would shut itself down immediately), and then went through a series of situations (terrorism, kidnappings, etc.) where I had to solve a crime. The game itself was very intricate and had many twists and turns. Since it has been so long, I do not remember its name, but I have been searching for a game like it. Can y’all recommend one, please?

Thanks,
Quasi

It sounds like Majestic might be right up your alley (I think it is a http://www.ea.com, or wherever their new online game division is). It is supposed to be an online, immersive spy story. You pay $10/month, and give them as much personal information as you would like. Then, the game will start with you searching various websites, talking to strangers via Instant Messenger, getting faxes and phone calls (I can see getting a call at 2am telling me to 'back off, I’m too close to the truth).

Their goal is to have it become ‘part of your life’ to create a total immersion.

It hasn’t started yet (I think), so if you sign on, you will be able to start the story from the beginning.

… in order to get some more feedback. “Majestic” hasn’t started yet, (still in BETA testing stages) but I don’t know if I wanna get that involved. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Thanks

Quasi

Deus Ex

Its awsome.

(to tell you more would spoil the game)

I’m not looking for a game that is violent just for the sake of violence. I prefer the challenge of using my brain to figure things out. I realize that I probably just narrowed the field considerably but that is the kind of gaming I like to do.

I know a guy who is in the Majestic beta, his mother answered the phone and got a death threat, freaked her out.

There was this older PC game I got in some collection that was spy-related and really good, it may even be the one you are talking about but I can’t remember the name…I’ll research it further. It had a number of different sections, like decoding messages, following cars, raiding buildings for clues, etc.

Sounds like someone needs to play some Quake…

I got it! Sid Meier’s Covert Action.

This game is from 1990 - low-resolution EGA, very dated looking. Here’s more info if you are interested.

‘Spycraft - The Great Game’ is a more recent game that might be up your alley as well.

I don’k know, Badtz. It’s on a DOS platform. The reviews don’t mention the game logistics on DOS as opposed to Windows. What are your feelings?

Thanks for the links!

I haven’t played it since I got rid of my old 486SX running 3.1, so I have no idea how well it might play on a more modern OS. Someone in this thread has a copy of it, maybe he can let you know how it runs.

…sounds good. I read some reviews of it and the cost I just ober 15 bucks. I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks to everyone who responded.
