Please recommend me gay romantic movies?

Duh. My fault. It’s the OTHER Wings guy, Steven Weber, who plays Jeffrey. I’ve been mixing those two up for years.

Well, not male leads per se, but Victor/Victoria is a lot of fun. Robert Preston is the male lead (not conventially ‘hot’ but I found him rather attractive) and pretends to be having a romance with Julie Andrews who’s portraying a man, and there are a couple of real gay romances in it as well. The movie is sweet and fun and very pro-‘love who you love.’ I just watched it a month or so ago (after having seen it in the theater back when it first came out) and fell in love with it all over again.

Ooh, I came in here to rec that.

Since to say more would be a spoiler I’ll just say Alex Karras was perfect in his role.

May I recommend Plata Quemada (Burnt Money), from Argentina? It stars Spanish heartthrob, Eduardo Noriega, and equally gorgeous Argentine actor, Leonardo Sbaraglia.

The film is based on Ricardo Piglia’s novelization of a true crime story that happened in Buenos Aires circa 1964. Our heroes are a pair of bank robbers forced to flee to Uruguay after a heist gone terribly wrong.

I first saw this as a Blockbuster rental and immediately bought a copy on Amazon. It’s available now on Netflix streaming video with English subtitles.

Plata Quemada is one of the best love stories I’ve ever seen. The soundtrack is also incredible!

I never want to discourage someone from watching a movie, but I was able to catch this last night and I’d like to temper your expectations.

First, if you plan to watch this on Netflix and are not fluent in French, many of the subtitles are obscured by white in the scenery.

Second, the steamiest scenes are heterosexual or take place in a men’s locker room (in which there is plenty of nudity and great bodies, but the steam is entirely from the showers).

Well, the gay character’s crush goes (mostly) unrequited, but I’ve always really liked Threesome.

And don’t overlook the Boys Life series.

I have seen this. It is charming.

Puccini for Beginners is the first one I thought of…though, honestly, I wanted to slap the main character in the face for much of the movie.

“Allegra, an opera-loving writer in New York, eschews commitment, so her girlfriend, Samantha, leaves her. Allegra misses Sam, and resents the accusation that she’s afraid to say “I love you,” but she’s soon involved with two people - Grace and Philip - who, unbeknownst to her, have just broken up with each other.”

I’d vote for “Top Gun”. Tom Cruise wasn’t in love with Kelly McGinnis-he had the hots for Val Kilmer (check out how Val lovingly looks at Tom).

Since this thread has resurfaced, I’ve thought of another film that hasn’t been suggested yet: Velvet Goldmine. John Rhys-Meyers as a David-Bowie-sort-of artist has a romance with Ewan McGregor as a Iggy-Pop-sort-of singer. Lots of early '70s music (and many people in big platform shoes!)

The Buddha of Suburbia (2 dvds) in which Naveen Andrew gives (simulated) head.

The soundtrack of A Beautiful Thing is great, including Cass Elliott doing *Make your Own Kind of Music *while the two gauys are cavorting thru the woods.

A beautiful thing is a really lovely film, it was released when I was 16 so I was about the same age as the main characters. Still have it on DVD, love it.

Count me as a dissenting voice against Big Eden, which I found to be a big, whiny mopefest anchored around an unappealing, insipid male lead. It was one of the most boring, excruciating movies I’ve ever sat through.

High Art with Ally Sheedy and Radha Mitchell was interesting.

I thought this was brilliant, yes.

ETA: Whoops, I zombified my own thread. Sorry.

I personally thought Shelter (2007) was a great movie. Sweet and something that the viewer could really get into.

Another would be You Should Meet My Son! (2010). I adored this movie and it got so many laughs from me.

Though I haven’t seen it, the movie In and Out (1997) is supposed to be an extreme comedy! I’ve checked out the trailer - looks hilarious!

One that I thought was super adorable was eCupid (2011). Oh my goodness! I swear I was gonna die from smiling so hard and so much!

Going Down In La-La Land (2011) was super cute. Even though there is one or two parts that you cry, the ending is fantastic! I really got into this one.

Is It Just Me? (2010) was also amazingly cute. There are parts where you just wanna yell at the people on screen, but watching this is totally worth it, especially for the ending.

Make The Yuletide Gay (2009) is adorable! I got hooked right away to this one.

The Big Gay Musical (2009) was fantastic! There are sex scenes (like, a couple) and AIDS are mentioned, but this movie had me deeply moved. Especially the song “As I Am” at the end. Inspirational and cute!

Leave It On The Floor (2011) looks amazing! I’ve only seen about 20:00 in, but so far, it was ugh! Fantastic!!!

Eating Out (2004) was cute, even though I wanted to strangle some of the characters at some points. I haven’t seen the sequels, but I heard they’re okay.

More good ones (to me) are: Boy Culture (2006), The Curiosity of Chance (2006), and Dream Boy (2008).

Dream Boy is absolutely heartbreaking, but I do not regret watching it. Not to mention, the ending kinda left me with a hope about the boys since it didn’t really justify what happened and why he was seeing him (you probably don’t understand what I’m saying, but if you watch, you will). It leaves you to pretty much think of the ending as you’d like, unless you’ve read the novel. I haven’t, but I bet the ending is pretty clear in the novel.

I hope these are good and that you like them!

The Kids Are Alright.

I realized this was a zombie as soon as I opened it, but kept scrolling down wondering if anyone had mentioned Velvet Goldmine. I see I was beaten to it by a couple of years!

While this is a rather odd movie and does not end with a happy romance for anyone, it’s not a sobfest either and in terms of love scenes between handsome big name stars (before they were A-listers) it probably can’t be beat. In addition to pre-Star Wars Ewan McGregor there’s also pre-Batman Christian Bale. You might think a sex scene between young Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bruce Wayne could only happen in fanfiction, but you can see it for yourself in Velvet Goldmine.

Lost and Delirious, not a happy ending though.

CMC fnord!
